I suppose there's nothing much I can do for this little fella?

I was just going out to photograph some weeds for ID, to check I've got nothing too nasty, and there he was. He's dropped out from the eaves onto a slabbed patio, which can't have been much fun. He is alive, and he has taken a nice fat grub I found.
So, what to do? Mum won't be able to get him back into the nest. I can't get to the nest to put him back in. He'd die in a short time if I left him, but I think the odds of keeping him alive are slim. Question is, is it cruel to even try? Am I just prolonging the agony?
I flippin' well hate it when this sort of thing happens, because I feel obliged to try. I'm just too bloody soft, that's my trouble.

If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Vets or RSPCA might help?
or you can keep feeding it grubs and see... some baby animals aren't as strong as their brothers and sisters, but sometimes they can 'grow' to be just as strong.0 -
aww I keep looking at the picture and feeling mushy... it's so CUTE!0

Well, I was looking at this bit:
"NEVER try and feed or give water to a baby bird regardless of how sorry for it you are! Unexperienced feeding (with wrong type of food etc) and handling could kill the bird."If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
It's nest is up there somewhere, so I've got no chance of getting it back in.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0

Don't think it will survive
, but big hugs for giving it your best shot, and please don't give up.

When I was landed with some babybirds these people were brilliant - and they take in baby birds (not sure if they take them that young, though.)

Trying to feed them yourself is exhausting (they're awake from 4 am.) If you do then packs of live worms are probably the only way to have enough.0 -
RSPCA and the RSPB probably won't be much help, we found a baby bird outside our house on a couple of occasions. all they told us to do was to leave it where it was and the parents would come down and take care of it. Big no! We had loads of cats around and our own cat had even brought babies in, so we took it to the local bird rehoming centre anyway regardless of whether they wanted us to or not. We had to turn up with the bird in a box and they wouldn't turn it away then.
also keep trying as you may be surprised how quickly it will get feathers. hope it works out.BSC #215/No.1 Jan 09 Club0
