My current thoughts on this are on the DFW board but I'd say the easy way was to put £3.01 worth of petrol in the car on the way to work each day as a starter.

Looks as though you need to deposit a minimum £250 to open the Online Saver. Which you can withdraw again straight away, obviously,

When I opened my online saver 6 months ago, you had to keep in a minimum of £250 to get the rate, so double check.
  • ..finally thought of a simple-ish solution to racking up 50 transactions a month.

Ebay. Penny ebooks. Buy the ebook by paypal on your debit card for 1p and 99p gets put in your savings account.

I feel 50 recipes for banana muffins coming on....(though I'm sure they'll close that loopholedown.)

I opened one yesterday with £1, but i get 0.1% interest until it hits £250. Which it may or may not do in Feb and March. ;)

The OP say switch card - is it just going to be switch spends, or those on any TSB debit card (ours is a Visa Debit)?

Edit - ignore me - just read the T&C and it states Visa Debit :o

Also states all transactions - so hopefully it'll include all the bills I pay online with it - can anyone confirm this?

They are paying you 99p a time to do it. If your petrol usage is high that £29 a month for very very little.

It raises the interesting possibility of asking a shop to charge you a bit more than the till says, just to push you over into the next pound!
Not that I've tried it, but in the stores that offer it, can you actually ask for cashback of < £1 to take you to £xx.01?

Haha, this is a complete rip off of the Bank of America scheme... if you look at the two websites, the examples even use the same amounts of change (except LTSB use pounds not dollars...)!

Apart from the free money in Feb & Mar if you can be bothered, it seems a bit pointless... just a way to persuade people to open an (uncompetitive) LTSB savings account.

  • I'm pretty sure the chief exec of LTSB now (Terri Dial) used to run Bank of America! Well she's definitely American anyway.

Remember, this offer isn't for us mad money savers. This is designed for people who aren't saving and should be encouraged to do so. A positive thing for banks wouldn't you say??
