Groupon Deal from 20th April (availability countdown ends midnight on 21st April, but voucher redemption seems to be valid until 4th May) is:

1303146727242.jpg

Galaxy Tab with T-mobile contract - £15 for the tablet and £15 monthly fee for 'unlimited' internet.

It's a 24 month contract.

The Galaxy Tab is a small (1/2 size of an ipad) tablet computer that can make phone calls - or, if you look at it another way, a larger than usual smartphone. Runs on Android OS. Connects to the internet through mobile signal (3G) and via wi-fi.

Not quite clear what phone usage, other than 'unlimited' 3G internet, is included, possibly none (see post #7 below), though people who have ordered report that there's a 100 minutes and 100 text included, with options to vary it (see posts on second page of this thread).

Also, some people, not all, have reported being asked for a delivery fee - seems to depend on who you speak to at t-mobile.

just seen my email on this, a little bit tempted..what happens after the 24 months, do you still need to have a contract to use it?

Well, that depends what you use it for. The Galaxy Tab is more computer than phone, and you'll not need to pay anything to use it as a standalone computer.

And if you've wifi at home then it will connect to that without needing a phone connection. So you'll not need to pay extra to use it on the internet there, or at wifi hotspots, either.

The 24 months of £15 is 'just' paying for the 3G mobile internet phone connection - if you still need that connection afterwards you'll need to keep on paying (but will probably be able to get a better deal then (eg t-mobile already offer £20 broadband top-ups that last 6 months for some customers).

Using the Tab as a phone is a bit odd - it's rather big to hold up to your face, but (i think) it does come with a handsfree kit.

  • Hi, I've never had a contract phone before so don't quite understand the rules and benefits of this groupon voucher for the Galaxy Tab. Does anyone know please does the monthly contract cover phone calls and texts as well as internet access?

The implication from the Groupon page is that this deal is the same package (but cheaper) as the higher cost T-mobile deal that is here:

    http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/mobile-broadband/24mth-25-mobilebroadband/samsung-galaxy-tab/extras/

Now, that doesn't actually mention phone calls, texts etc. So maybe that's not included (it is an odd device to use as a phone, as mentioned above).

I'll alter my original post to point out that maybe actual phone use isn't in the package - and maybe if someone actually orders this deal (I'm still thinking about it...) they can post what is included.

Don't know how this one works in practice - the mechanism of groupon deals varies with the deal. I'd guess you get either a personalised voucher code to use online at t-mobile, but it could be a special url, or a phone call.
  • wouldn't buy. £15 x 24 months = a lot
500mb /month is NOTHING. Don't go watching youtube vids or looking at content heavy web pages
  • I have a Galaxy Tab and it's a marvelous bit of kit. I paid £399 for it just after Xmas and got £250 worth of free films, books, games etc with it. I brought it to watch films on and surf the web and generally leave it next to bed. I wanted it over the ipad as its smaller and you can just chuck it in a bag. It's ideal as i often have to stay in hotels. Saves me getting a laptop out.
I think this is a very good deal if you are going to use it as its got unlimited internet access but given the tab picks up most wireless networks for free you may be better off buying it outright (think i have seen it for £299 in places now) and putting your own sim in when you can't pick up normal wireless.
I put my 3G dongle sim in it when i can't have ordinary wireless. It costs me £7.50 per month for 5 GB. I use this in the car sometimes or when i stay in my caravan.
    Hope this helps someone.

Should add you can't really use it as a phone unless you want to look like a right dork! It is possible to use it as a phone though. I use skype on it which is free.

It says unlimited internet in the first post or is that wrong???

Apologies you were right. I just checked my email and it says

    • 500MB internet allowance per month
Not such a great deal now as OP is right. That allowance is pants.
  • It says unlimited internet in the first post or is that wrong???

it will be unlimited subject to a fair usage policy that is 500mb, it's how all the networks do it now

it's an alright deal if you will be using the 3G functions and then you don't have a big allowance of it. If you plan to get a galaxy tab for use on wifi theres a wifi only model thats £299, the 3g one is about £350 sim free so if you planned on using a lot of mobile internet you may be best paying this and getting a beter tariff
