Make it a priority to follow this one up - you can check with each of the 3 schemes yourself - mydeposits, DPS, and TDS.

    Thanks. :)

she also asked me to go to church with her and when i said i had too many other issues to deal with right now (my mother's losing her home and bereavement issues) she asked me how on earth did i get my degree (psychology) if i can't deal with people! Saying i shoudl be more assertive with my mother - etc.!
No doubt i ought to contact her soon and let her know when she can visit and check the light fittings have been cleaned...and to thank her for the church documents put through my door.

Okaaayy, this is starting to sound a bit like a Hollywood movie or something (Single White Female anyone?)... Your landlady seems to have social interaction issues of her own, and I wonder if she saw your relationship more as a friendship than a business one, and was hurt/insulted when other, far more important things happened in your life? She sounds a bit like a "friend" I had once who I at least thought was a close friend, liked to advise me about my life etc - but was mortally insulted when I chose DH, not one of the men that *she* tried to fix me up with (friends of her DH, who was ruled by her in everything). After our wedding it was as if she had a personality transplant, and she dropped me like a hot potato soon after, without any obvious reason - I never knew for sure what I'd done to upset her. But I've since found out that she did this on a regular basis - her idea of friendship was completely exclusive, and she had to be in charge, the "advice-giver".

This all sounds rather dodgy to me, and in your shoes OP I'd start looking around for something else, but on YOUR terms, not your LL's. Try to stay on a periodic tenancy basis, as this means you can give a month's notice at any time while she has to give 2 (and as has been said, it would take her longer than that to get you out if you really wanted to stay longer).

Yes unfortunately - but a true friend isn't selfish. Sorry to hear about your 'friend' also.

Neither a LL nor a tenant have to give any reason why a tenancy won't be renewed. That's renting. That's why rental contracts are for six months.

Thank God I have a council house
  • LOL - amen to that!
