Camera Company Hell

well basically I ordered from a company called VideoCameraDirect two weeks ago.
No contact details other than Email
At first they were helpful, but then stopped replying to my emails. no delivery or reply after a week, I went to bank concerned and they told me to wait another week and they'll definately get my money back if no item and no contact....

Today the company sent me a one hundred pound tripod.

My order was a five thousand pound camera ...

What can I do? I'm worried, and reading on past information about this company, they had various sites- KamKorda, Bentonville Mall, and some others with bad rep...

How do I get my money back?

I sent an email asking for a return address, no reply. Ignoring me.

If I use another email and ask pretending to be a new customer though, they reply to my email within two minutes... suspicious.

  • One is always amazed that a search bringing up the cheapest sourced item on the net and then parting with money is akin to buying a wreck after the Car Auction has finished, sometimes for cash.

I assume this is the site you mean
    http://www.videocameradirect.com/

Well without contact details and without too much knowledge of said, I am thinking a bargepole would be handy.

As for you monies lost, one does hope that it was a card transaction and a credit one at that.

Yeah, I paid by a Natwest Credit Card.

Well, I searched for my camera on Google shopping and I guess i thought Google listings were safe... well now i know at least.

So what do I do about the tri-pod? I've opened it up because I was expecting my camera finally arrived which it didn't. Can they say they sent a camera and that I'm lying? :( I'm a bit worried about this part.

    I signed for the parcel.

It was a big box, but when opened it had several smaller boxes and after about 4 boxes and ripped up cardboard, there was a small Tripod sitting there.
  • Do a charge back. Others will say how to do this. You need to be within 120 days.

Oh where did squawks put that S75 article.

    Could start here

As the site is registered in Toronto, not a lot really apart from send an email telling them that you are rejecting the order and tell them to make arrangements to collect the wrong order at their expense.

If you hear no further from the seller AND if you paid by Credit Card (Which, like Freddie, I sincerely hope you did), then contact your Credit Card Company (CCC) and inform them you want to make a S75 claim.

Yes, I know that, and you know that, but the OP might have been confused...

yeah, i paid by credit card and what is an S75 claim?

I contacted the bank before I made this post and they told me that I will be getting a form to fill out in 2-5 days from now.

I know 5k sounds stupid, but I thought that if it came up on Google, it has to be legit, right?

Plus, in the shops its about a thousand more so I thought i'd be saving money.

    Guess not.
