Personalised Number Plate; help for a novice
Options
Have my idea on a personalised license plate although a little confused which company to go for, and how exactly the process works.
Newreg is the cheapest... anybody any experience with them?
My understanding is I purchase online, they will send me documents, i need to fill them in and send them back with my car documentation(V5 etc) or take it up to my nearest DVLA centre to be verified/authorised. I will get notification by post if i return the documents by post as to when i can put my new plates on or I can put the new plates on there and then if i choose to visit the dvla centre myself.
There is an option for newreg to finn in documents themselves for £25 however I suspect this would be easy enough to do myself?
Many thanks

The DVLA own website is cheaper than Newreg and most other similar websites. The difference is that the price shown on the DVLA website includes VAT and the £80 assignment fee. This means there is nothing else to pay except for the costs of having the actual physical plates made up.
You will find that Newreg prices do NOT include the £80 assignment fee.
When you buy from the DVLA they send you the documents which you take to your nearest DVLA office then get the plates done. You dont have to send anything back if you go to the DVLA office in person with the docs that they send you.0 -
If you are after an new (not previously issued) number just go to the DVLA. It makes the whole process as simple as it can be.
Other companies claim to be cheaper but when you get to the bottom line the difference is pennies.0 -
This is what I think of people with private reg plates...0

DVLA all the way. Don't even touch other sites, they'll probably nick your reg before you've done it.My understanding is I purchase online, they will send me documents, i need to fill them in and send them back with my car documentation(V5 etc) or take it up to my nearest DVLA centre to be verified/authorised. You pay your money, wait to receive a V750 in the post, which you then post off with your V5 and I think your tax disc to your local DVLA office. You can order your plates online while you're waiting.
When you get it back (about a week), you can then put the plates on - contact your insurance company to change your insurance over (usually about £10).0 -

Can you order the plates online at the DVLA site?
Also... if you have to send off your tax disc, does this mean you are unable to drive until you recieve it back(sorry if that is a silly question)0 -

You don't send the tax disc off with the application, you will receive a replacement with your new registration number.0 -
I have bought and sold several numberplates through Newreg and found them good to deal with. There is room for negotiation on their website prices so worth making them an offer on the plate you want.0

No wonder - they're still advertising this https://www.newreg.co.uk/secure/buy/index.html?registration=BVV%2051S&marketingId1=homepage&marketingId2=text for £519 when I paid £140 for it inc transfer (and have since sold the car)0
