Mexico for a week - would you....

We have been to Mexico several times, have been to both Riu Tequila and Riu Palace (got upgraded for free as over booked). Have also been for a week. I would say that going for a week is no problem on the way out, as others have said it is on the way back that's it's a problem.
Both the Riu properties are fab ! The Tequila is far more family orientated and has more animation activities and louder background music played round the pool. The Palace as you would expect is more for couples. The real difference is the food, it is absolutly fine at the Tequila and we had no complaints, but the Palace is much better, more choice, more waiter service, better cocktails etc etc. It depends what you like.
Any questions feel free to ask.
We have also stayed at the Barcelo resorts just outside Playa del Carmen and these were better than the Riu's as you access to the facilities of 4 hotels which we liked.0 -
Thanks Netballi - Have read good reports about both properties, although don't think our purse strings could stretch to the Palace!! Just been looking on line as to how much the holidays are for the end of April this year opposed to the prices in April 2012 when we'd be going......quite a lot of difference. Will keep an eye on the price and will hopefully try and bag a bargain! Would prefer the Palace as we've no kids, and the peace and quiet really appeal to me! Did you book far in advance? Who is the best Tour Operator? Ta0

We did book in advance for most of our trips to Mexico as we felt we got a better deal. The tour operators are all much the same, have been with Thomson, First Choice and My Travel. Our last trip to the Barcelo Maya last year we booked independently ourselves. We booked flight only direct with First Choice and then emailed the hotel direct to book that. We saved a lot of money this way, and it was easy to do. We booked transfers from the airport over the internet. The hotels have lots of offers on their web sites. Have a look at Moon Palace in Cancun, they have good deals online usually

I have to agree with that as well - although I appreciate everybody's body clock is different.
As for the OP's original question, MrsP and I are off to Bangkok for 8 days next month for a city break.
Yes - I know many will suggest that amount of time in BKK is too long, but I am not a 'beachy' person and we have done this for the past few years around our anniversary.
It is a chill break (despite the heat and humidity) to enjoy the food and basically laze around all day.
I have got a good price for flights, we get very well looked after at the hotel we always stay at so I don't have any qualms about taking a long flight for a relatively short break.
Life is too short - go for it OP and enjoy!0 -
2 years ago i went to Cancun for a week. I would have loved to stay longer but a week was fine! Didn't feel jet lagged, shame the flight arrives in the evening but you return late too so you still almost get a week.
Would love to go back - swine flu outbroke day after we arrived so few places shut downNevertheless had a fantastic holiday (& didn't get ill, they were so laid back out there too whilst press over here were going wild)
