Mexico for a week - would you....

Approaching the dreaded 4-0 next April and want to leave the country, would love to go to Mexico, but only want to be away for a week. Only done long haul once for 2 weeks when we got married - would you go to Mexico for a week???? Looking at Riu Palace, anyone been? Or anyone got any other suggestions??

We went to Mexico for a week -stayed at El Dorado Royale which is a fantastic hotel. The only problem we found staying just for a week was adjusting to the time difference ie we were waking up at 5.30am in Mexico and then wanting to go to bed really early at night (we go to bed really early in UK). You would have the same problem in Barbados and other Caribbean countries so its not just Mexico.
Yes - the flight is long but worth it when you get there.
We couldnt afford 2 weeks but maybe you could do 10 days ?(Thomson and First Choice)

We went for a week last year, it is a long way to go for a week and was very tiring getting there, we had early flights out on a sunday, I had got up earlyish on the saturday, couldn't sleep sat night as worrying about not waking up for the 4 a.m. departure to the airport, so basically by the time we arrived at the hotel, I had been up for about 40 hours . Explored the hotel, pools and bars, had dinner then slept fine, so didn't have the problems jcorbygas had but I do work stupid shifts so maybe that helped. I'm reminded of my "might as well have gone to Spain" outburst, as I queued at the hotel check-in !!

We loved it and glad we went but really wish we had done 10/11 nights. Maybe an upmarket A/I in the Canaries or even Spain, similar prices but 2/4 hours flight time, could be an option.

Dont let the jet lag put you off - it really was the best hotel we've stayed in - the all inclusives out there are REALLY all inclusive and we had a great relaxing holiday.

    I wouldn't go for just a week.
We go to the states every year and it always takes me 3 days after arriving to adjust to the time difference and feel human again (I am naturally an 'early to bed, early to rise person').
I wouldn't consider going for less than two weeks, especially with the way flight prices have gone up this year!

I would definately go for a week!! The time difference means that when we went we left here at 9am had a 10hr flight, and landed at 2ish the same afternoon!
We just had an hours nap on the lounger on the beach every afternoon, and then we were fine to stay up till midnight.
The jetlag when we got home was a killer though! but who cares about when you get home lol!
Dont forget that a weeks holiday to mexico is actually 8 days, because you get a full 7 days in resort.

I went for to Mexico last year for a week, which was just the right amount of time for me! Although the flight is long, it didn't feel it there or back! :)
