Would it matter? "EU" or "GB? Plate? - Can I Use A Yellow Front Plate?

Would these people be the first to moan if someone who had hit their car and disappeared could not be identified because of their vague tampered with plate?
Probably.
Personally I couldn't give a damn so long as the plate is easily readable to the human eye. If you really want a Man U flag instead of an EU flag, and yellow plates up front. So long as I can read the number anything else you do is between you and the Police.
That said I do get annoyed when I get told my plate is illegal when actually it's not. 13x6.5" plate with the smaller motorbike font on it. Perfectly legal on grey imports.0 -
And no....
You can't have a black plate with silver letters either.
Even if they do "look nice"......0 -

Actually you legally can if your car is old enough.0 -
Hench, the reason I wanted to use EU instead
I assume you may be driving a VW?
The only legal way to have EU plates as you suggest is to register the car in another EU country. You aren't allowed to just get your reg no made up in a different coutries style.
As mentioned above it would be illegal, t and traffic would give you no end of free MOT's, rectification notices and possible on the spot fines.
Not worth it to be honest, you could always get show plates made up to slip on when you are at a cruise or simliar, but don't drive with them on.0 -

There is a specific plate for imports, and when I imported three cars from Japan a couple of years ago I bought specific import plates, as i was informed by the DVLA that motorbike plates where not legal for use on a car or van, even an import, they advised me that they were motorbike only, even though a lot of people are under the impression that it is legal, including me, though apparently it isn't.
I wish I had the link to put up, but you are going to have to take my word for it, I had intended to put motorbike plates on it, but got proper import spec plates made up online by a bloke in Bexleyheath.0 -

You can in Guernsey!
Perfectly legal and we only have numbers on our cars as well - no letters at all.0 -
Why do people feel the need to mess with numberplates on their cars?
It's an important identifier used for a number of legal and safety reasons - it needs to be in a certain place on the car in a certain format, deal with it!
It's a fast and effective way of spotting morons
The government is planning on making it law for all morons to have personalised and illegal spaced/fonted number plates - allegedly"One thing that is different, and has changed here, is the self-absorption, not just greed. Everybody is in a hurry now and there is a 'the rules don't apply to me' sort of thing." - Bill Bryson0 -

There is a plate which is acceptable for imports that are designed for a small plate, and only when the UK one won't fit. It's not a motorcycle plate though, it's included in the BS AU 145d.0 -
So i wasn't imagining it, isn't there something abiut the letters being allowed to be spaced slightly closer than normal. Though i might have imagined that bit, but i am certain it was mentioned on a site that sold plates for.imports0

Actually there are no regulations regarding plate size, even for EU type approved cars. The only regulations are regarding font size, spacing and borders.
For imports the font size requirements are the same as for the motorbike plate but only if "the design of the vehicle cannot accommodate a standard size plate".
I've got a standard size 13x6.5 plate, wider than a motorbike plate and the same size as you see on Previas, Delicas etc. That isn't the issue, the reason I occasionally get hassle is that my car is fitted with backlit plate holders instead of standard numberplate lights, and it's impossible to make a plate that is both reflective and transparent without ending up with a texture on the background. the TVRs with similar plates have the same issue.0
