Tesco/Asda Pricechecker Thread - part 5

Personally, I appreciate the time they take to update the SS, but these latest "amendments", ie no shopping list functionality, separate and unorganised "low value" DTD items are a huge step backwards for the spreadsheet users.
I’m a SS editor. Please can I add my 2p worth.
Nobody should underestimate the work going on behind the scenes to bring you the data resulting from our shared experiences. There is a lot of work going on. Before Monday’s changes the editors had to deal with each and every single update, check the prices on both websites, add the tips given by the update provider and make extra notes of what to watch out for if necessary. This was done for all updates, even the unconfirmed ones.
It was an awful lot of work for not a lot of people. People who had committed to this volunteer task for the good of the thread, no other reason. But it wasn’t sustainable, the whole thing became larger than anyone had ever expected and something had to give.
So now the updates are dealt with as necessary without checking prices and the split lists are great, as now it’s easier to target the hot deals. At least this way, we can share our experiences and tipoffs, but seeing as we all should be checking websites ourselves on the day that we shop, it was felt that the editors shouldn’t have to do that as well.
A big thank you to all the editors and especially those who created the spreadsheet and continue to redesign and reformulate as necessary.
And finally thank you to everyone who sends updates, as without you the spreadsheet would be empty...so would our shopping baskets!

Yep, and occasionally they don't send any and the vouchers are a day late  but they usually turn up eventually.:D0 -
Ok just so every knows that there is a small team of ss editors.
As has been pointed out, unfourtunatly for the ss we have jobs, families, chores, DTD of our own to do, etc...
Each update/form that is completed is manually checked and processed by a member of this volunteer team.
Prices are checked manually against both Mr T & Mr A websites before being put into any category these all take time.
The priority is of course confirmed HOT deals, however other items are listed to help everybody benefit.
Individuals can copy and paste and create a personalised shopping list.
Personally I use an old envelope still with my list on, and inside I have a piece of paper that has some emergencys on.
Lets not pick holes in what is an amazing volunteer bit of information. It is there to share the information with everybody.

I say Tesco found it EASY to make promises it still cannot keep.0 -
Fresh salmon from the fish counter has been reduced to £7.50 kg at Tesco.
Yes, I know, old news, but,,,,,, then there was also a sign saying a further 25% off!!!
The sa at the counter said they had absolutely loads of it to shift.
So I killed off a voucher and have lots and lots of salmon in the freezer!
They did this in Watford last Monday with the whole sides, except they went straight down to 1/2 price again. My poor freezer is groaning with salmon.0 -
Pen and paper? copy and paste?
We have changed this to make it easier to update. The amount of effort involved in updating it in the old format it not sustainable for us. Even splitting things in to different categories SIGNIFICANTLY increases the amount of time it takes to do an update. At the moment I can pick up several updates at once and transfer them. If they're in sections, each one has to be done individually, we have to go find the right section, insert row, bla bla bla. It all adds up.
We are all doing this voluntarily. And we all have other commitments - jobs, studies, children - in some cases all of the above. We have opted to keep the separate headings on the Hot Deals tab is this is the one most people are interested in.
Let me reiterate that I appreciate the time you take.
Let me also say, that I don't do shops for the sake of it, I buy stuff I need and like it to be balanced. The best way to balance what you actually need v what is available DTD wise, is to have a mixture of items, some offering better DTD value and some worse. The greedy people out there, that insist on buying a load of crap they'll never use, because they think they're getting one over on Mr T should not be pandered to, in the fashion that appears to be happening now. The old spreadsheet format, containing all items, under headers, was far far superior to the version available now. The systematic "dumping" of what are now classed "low value" DTD items, but still very useful to many, into an unorganised mess, is more than a little disappointing.

I have just got back from my own tescos again , and the vanish 1.5kg oxi is now back up to £12, being £6 earlier this afternoon !! There were a lot of items with blank prices on them and a lot of extra staff ( I presume ) dealing with different items. There seemed to be more staff than customers tonight.0

Had my first trout experience today :j This was on my first ever voucher use as well but thank god I've been on here reading up on how it all works.
SA was refusing to use my voucher, not because I was trying to buy baby formula but because I didn't have my clubcard. She very quietly tried to get the supervisors attention so I just stood my ground and waited. When the supervisor came over she said that they needed the CC for proof that I'd bought the items on the original receipt. At this point I was in 2 minds whether to dump and run or show them my Android app that has my CC details stored on it. Thankfully the supervisor backed down after she read the voucher T&Cs and couldn't back up her claim.
Boy that was fun :rotfl:0 -
