I don't know BB, but this sounds very vague. Does this 'setting' prevent if from being used, say, for taking photos?
Something like 'data roaming disabled' would sound more convincing.
I can't understand why I would be charged in Malaysia for WAP when I didn't use
As it was said above, it may be the phone, not you who used the internet.
it for this and did nothing different to when I visited the Carribean or Europe
The actual amount of data used is pretty unpredictable and the prices can differ dramatically in different parts of the world.

Haven't heard it described as WAP in a few years...

Probably a quirk of the vodafone billing system.

My bill has a header for a section called Messaging, mobile browsing + data

but under that each day lists me data useage as WAP

    Fri 4 Mar 00:00icon_vf_Data.gifWAP 6.145MB 0.000 0.000

    along with any charge used.

It may be data not WAP, although why it was charged I don't know.

If you don't use the phone for internet, ask the network to bar data services on the sim. That'll stop it dead anywhere, even in the UK.
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

    Hi nigreeves,

I’m sorry to see how unhappy you are here and I understand how frustrating it will be to return from abroad with a higher that expected bill.

As a few people have mentioned already, a lot of phones will be connecting to the network ‘behind the scenes’ so you won’t necessarily know when this is happening.

If you’d like to email us via Web Relations Team we’ll be happy to look into this further for you.

(When contacting, please quote the code WRT135 in the subject line. In the main message body, please include a link to this thread and your user name. This will ensure that your message comes directly through to my team).

  • Options > Networks and Connections > Data Services, select While Roaming then select off. This will switch off all data services including mobile internet.

You can also turn Data services of completely.

    Hi Vodafone
I included the ref no in the last e mail.
Is there a way to ensure the e mail goes to you?
The e mail route on the Vodafone website seems to send everything to customer services.
Do you have an e mail address which is seperate that I can use?
