Regular Ramblings from LookingAhead

I just sat and typed quite a long ramble but then I deleted it all (purposefully) as it was all wrong. Or seemed all wrong.
I was rambling on about what I have spent my money on this weekend and I thought "Who's gonna want to read this??"
Basically I am off to two weddings next month, one in London & one in Holland. And I had b*gger all to wear. And I really want to make a good impression (for personal reasons). And both weddings are at very salubrious venues. So my £7 bargain dress from the Christmas party wouldn't really do!
I have had my hair done this weekend and I have also bought the most expensive dress I have ever bought and a decent pair of shoes to go with it. I shopped and shopped for the right dress that would have a decent amount of wow factor without being stupid - I wanted something I could wear at a number of other occasions and I have achieved that.
I also bought some clothes I could go away in too and look nice - but they can be worn for work and/or out in the evenings too so they are versatile and will get a lot of use.
I am pleased with my purchases and I have cut up the Post Office credit card (that I got via QuidCo) now that I have bought what I needed to buy.
I really like what I have bought and feel confident that none of this lot will end up on EBAY like some other dodgy purchases I have made in the past when trying to 'save money' and bought something cheaper.
So anyway - I still feel uneasy because I have spent a lot of money. I guess this just goes to show I am still a DFW really and haven't fallen off the wagon!
I have amended my spreadsheet to show how I am going to pay this off, the card is cut up so I can't add to it. And I made £20.50 out of QuidCo along the way.
So why do I feel really strange? I feel like I have done something really really bad.

Hi LA, you ramble away hun. Don't feel guilty about the clothes you bought today, as you say, they are multi-functional and you'll get your wear out of them.
I think after being on the DFW wagon, you do start to feel guilty about spending money, but that's a good thing as you won't fall back into your old ways. Clothes are my downfall and even now temptation draws me into Next and M&S and sheer determination pushes me back out through the door empty handed.
You deserve a treat every now and again, so don't feel bad. x0 -

Or you just had an unwarranted attack of low self-worth..?LookingAhead wrote: »I was rambling on about what I have spent my money on this weekend and I thought "Who's gonna want to read this??"

Some people can get away with nudity. I'd never wish to chance it...LookingAhead wrote: »And I really want to make a good impression (for personal reasons).
Oh? Stealing the bride's thunder...LookingAhead wrote: »So anyway - I still feel uneasy because I have spent a lot of money. I guess this just goes to show I am still a DFW really and haven't fallen off the wagon!
That's right, but the "not posting" thing is a sign you're drifting away...LookingAhead wrote: »So why do I feel really strange? I feel like I have done something really really bad.
In the grand scheme of things...nope.LookingAhead wrote: »PS. Crikey that turned into another ramble and a half didn't it?

Hi LA...ramble away...as it's your thread and it's named that...LOL...
Please do not feel guilty as what you have bought you bought in the best debt free way that you could....of course if you are going to go to a wedding (or two) you need new clothes...and ...you certainly have not fallen off the wagon as you have cut the card up (didn't you get that card as you needed to buy a dress)...so it is all DFW ....and interest free...so you are not off the wagon!!!
You will get plenty of wear out of what you've bought so excellent value....
Curious is the holland wedding somebody that used to be on here...just being nosey...0 -
Hello missy.
I've not been around for a bit but wow! nice avatar! :T
Onto the spend panic. Have you ever heard the saying "when you get to 30, add a nought?" OK, it's not a practical consideration for a DFWer, but what it means is that you should be prepared to spend a little extra on your clothes as you get older. In the perfect world, it's because you're earning more (I'm yet to crack that one but I'm working on it) but also because you should invest in quality - it lasts longer and often looks better (ducks as the Primark fans throw rotten tomatoes).
You've bought one item for two weddings and spent what you think is a lot. In the old days before DFW, would you have bought two outfits instead? They may have been cheaper individually, but together with accessories and the like they may have ended up being more expensive. And if what you've bought is quality, then you've invested in yourself and future events.
Good DFW thinking, my girl!
Go and enjoy yourself knowing that you look a million dollars. And with your teeth all fixed, you can smile too! What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about? :eek:Official "Bring back Mark and Lard NOW! or else (please)" Member 160 -

Hello taxi! I'm sure LA won't mind (and no, I haven't moved to Holland if that's what you were getting at! :rotfl: ).
I'm fine - very very busy at the moment with various bits and pieces, but things should wind down a bit after next month. Is everything good with you? What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about? :eek:Official "Bring back Mark and Lard NOW! or else (please)" Member 160
