Hi LA,
Sorry I didn't catch you last night when you really needed it. It really is the time of year for feeling low. My spirits always plummet with the temperature.
You are doing really well, January is always a huge struggle because it's such a long month. I thought I was doing really well, but I've blown my January money and still have a week until pay day, so have to dip into my emergency fund.
You're not wrong to ask for help, we all need a boost and someone to talk to, even if it's just to let off steam. Sometimes just having a good rant about everything will make you feel better.
If it's any consolation I was thinking of you last night as I'd finished my swim and looked down in the cubicle to see a great lump of hair on the floor, which looked like the hair and gunk you remove from plug holes, was going to take a photo for you but I thought I'd get kicked out for taking photos in the pool changing rooms :rotfl:
If I had enough money I'd swim in a clean pool :rotfl:
I'm trying desperately to think of something philosophical and inspirational......
the best I can do is 'Don't let the b*****ds grind you down' :rotfl:
February is going to feel like a really short month compared to January, you'll be alright. :T"Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it." (Montgomery, L.M.(1908). Anne of Green Gables.)

just wanted to offer you a big hug hun
I havent been around cos of moving, but wondered, have you paid up your council tax- if you have it over 10 months you of course get 2 months off, will this help? Im sure youve thought of it already, but just wanted to pipe it up in case.
My overdraft has bounced too today ( grr)with the removal mens cheque written on saturday and cleared already
my motto is in the sig. What can you change, what cant you? You cant change what british gas or anyone wants to charge you, but you can drip it off in installments , so Id pay what you originally intended, then find the rest as you go. They wont cut you off either. they have to go through loads of checks to find out if you are elderly or disabled first ( i know this from work) and door knock you etc. A few days shouldnt make any difference.
Dont buy your OH another present if you cant afford it. Its just not worth it sugar. But id make a card/ voucher type thing of when you are DF you will buy him something v special. Or make a cake or something. Dont spend if you dont have it.
But massive hug, I hate those times, Ive had many, adn I hope you are feeling a bit brighter today?
Got snow? have a snowball fight later- act like a kid and put these adult woes away for now
Love
lynz

LookingAhead wrote:Does anyone know how long it takes/whether they write to you first before they cut your gas off??
It takes *AGES* to jump through all the hoops before they get to the stage of cutting your gas off, and you'll get enough letters to paper your front room. There's a reminder to come. Then a final reminder. Not sure if there is a reminder after that. You've got shed loads of time.
If you pay them some - but not all of the bill, then you can delay them even longer. Have you tried arranging installments? I know you want to be "up to date", but the satisfaction of that does not seem to be out-weighing the stress from the money situation.LookingAhead wrote:The realisation that the electric bill is also due in very soon dawned on me earlier tonight as well. We've been trying to be really good with electric but whatever it is, it'll be too much this month...I've got no room for manoeuvring really.
You can do the same with this, and delay this too.LookingAhead wrote:I just feel like it's a never ending bl**dy story and I can't help it, it's getting me down tonight. I just want an end to !!!!!!!g credit cards and overdrafts.
There will be an end. It might seem like a journey of a thousand miles, but keep putting one foot in front of the other, and you'll get there.LookingAhead wrote:Another thing that is getting me down at the moment is work. I don't mind the work I do at all. But without saying too much certain people are getting me down with their approach and I feel like they are expecting me to put my life on hold for the job, and that's never going to happen! So I am anticipating a mini show down at some point which won't be good.
The anticipation will be worse than the actuality. Be firm: You work to live - not live to work.LookingAhead wrote:Here I am wishing time away all cos of bl**dy money and work! It's not right.
Both are a pain in the rear. Don't waste time thinking fruitlessly about either of them. Worry about stuff you can change by worrying about.LookingAhead wrote:I need some inspirational, philosophical thoughts. Help me people. Please!
Inspirational? Moi? Unfortunately, I'm shallow and vacuuous. Someone deeper and more meaningful will be a long shortly. Meanwhile a short selection of someone else's greatest hits..."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

Thanks everyone. I appreciate your thoughts and perspectives very much indeed. And of course the knowledge re: the amount of time I have to pay the gas bill!
I think I will delay sending it a while, if it cashes in the week before Feb's pay day then that will be OK, I can live with that.
I guess I am feeling a bit brighter tonight but I'm not going to hang around for too long because I just sit here going over and over and over things time & time again and it's pointless, I just get p'd off and grouchy.
You're so right Lynz, what's the point in worrying when you can't change it. I'm going to go and think about things ahead of February & March's pay days when things should *hopefully* turn a corner.
What's two months anyway? Feels like an eternity away but one day I will be waking up and thinking "How did I get to be sixty so quickly?" (I'm 35 now!).....as we all know, time flies and I hope all this money malarkey will be a distant memory at some point. (For us all not just me.)
Big thanks again to all who have taken time to read my whinging and post in response. :grouphug:
