And the OP seems to have vanished from her own thread... poor dog

Apologies, no i obviously didn't read the second post and see the comment about stitches.peachyprice wrote: »Did you actually read the OP's second post?
It isn't identical at all. Your dog 'nipped' your daughter, OP's son needed stitches.
I don't know what i would have done in this situation....
But my dog, although he did just jump up the once and bite, did cause a nasty bruise on her leg and it probably would have been worse had she not had jeans on.0 -
Op pls come back and say what happened, was the dog ill? did you rehome him?#JusticeForGrenfell0

Maybe the OP is too distraught to come back after having to either re-home her dog or having to have him PTS. It's been a member of her family for 6 years and has now behaved completely out of character and hurt her child. Maybe the child has got an infection and in hospital right now.
Whatever it is, when a family pet bites it's a BIG thing and i am hoping she is sorting it out rather than coming on a forum asking advice from randoms.
I wish you all the best OP and want to say you have to do what you feel it right. No one knows your dog like you do. xx0 -
I agree with everything you say here but i ask you why you would have a dog in the first place if you expect there to be no risk and agree that they are not human nor capable of human thought processes???bluenoseam wrote: »I would do what my parents did to our lovely Springer Spaniel, we'd had it for 6 years in a loving home and it bit her, breaking the skin, completely unprovoked. (we were all sitting in the garden at the time) As soon as that happened, it was off to the vet the next day - there was no reason for the bite, it was out of character, but ultimately it was a bite.
Truth is while you understandably can't hold them to the same standards as humans let me put it like this. You're out in town one day, randomly out of nowhere someone punches you in the face, breaks your nose & leaves you with panda eyes. You would expect that person to be arrested & charged with assault would you not? As much as we all like to believe that pets are 100% domesticated & intelligent creatures, they are after all ANIMALS, with primal instincts who just so happen to be largely tollerant to human contact. You cannot accurately predict if the animal will bite again, as such you are taking a calculated risk that it won't happen again - something which as i understand they're not capable of rational thought processes i would not take the risk on.
It's an animal as you point out. You are responsible for it's life and death yet don't understand it and you only want it for your pleasure.
Doesn't that make you feel a bit bad that when it does something we don't understand you have it PTS?0 -

Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee, c'mon.
OP never said she was not in the same room as her kids when this happened, never seen she has not seen the bite herself.
Ah and thats where your contridiction lies. Our dogs 3yo - I'm always around my child and our dog. I've never known our dog to be nippy, but just because of that it doesnt mean i can trust a 4yo and a dog together without supervision. OP stated she didnt see what happened as there was only the 4yo and 9yo in the room (therefore, OP obviously had left them with the dog - not saying she left them in the house alone but she wasnt actually in the room)
OP's dog is obviously at least 6yo. Not sure what training the OP's dog has (ours has dog classes every week and has done since we got him) again, we arent sure exactly WHAT made the dog bite (unprovoked/not OP will NEVER be sure) and to immediatley suspect the dog is nasty because it bit once (again, we dont KNOW if the dog has reason to bite) and because it is a JRT is just plain silly.0 -

she has the 9yo's say so, how does OP know for sure the 9yo saw everything?
No, she didn't say there was no adult supervision, she said her 9yo was also there at the time and it upset her. Nowhere does she say it was ONLY the 9yo and 4yo there at the time. That is your own assumptionMimi_Arc_en_ciel wrote: »OP stated she didnt see what happened as there was only the 4yo and 9yo in the room

Again, no she didn't say that, so no, it's not obvious that she left them with the dog, again your assumption.Mimi_Arc_en_ciel wrote: »Am sure i read it somewhere on here -
No you didn't read that here, you assumed, again.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0
