Saw this thread and as I am going through a similar issue, thought I would post. I am looking to reclaim mis-sold ppi with barclays as well. I only looked back at my loan when i saw one of the ppi adverts on tv and saw that i had been paying it for the last four years. Stupid i know, but this was never explained and now I want it back. Is it best to do it myself or use one of these PPI type reclaim companys?

Hi there, you will get all the help you need on this site for free,no need to use a claims co.
If you have the loan number, look here for reasons for mis sell, you will also find the template letter to send to Barclays.

If any/all reasons apply to you then put a claim in.
You may be able to do this over the phone,so i would ring them first.
You can call us on 0845 755 5555 1 or write to us at:
    Barclays PPI Dept

How easy is that? and all for the cost of a phonecall or registered letter.

    Hi
I have been trying to reclaim my PPI charges from Barclaycard and they have sent me my original application form and the "Do you want PPI" box is ticked. I am convinced I didn't tick it and the tick is inconsistent with my ticks elsewhere on the form. So, I think Barclaycard have ticked it themselves! Has anyone else experienced this and where do I go from here?
Any help would be appreciated :)
    Cheers

I had the same experience with barclaycard, did you receive any key facts of the ppi insurance, was the insurance explained to you in any way? If you were employed, were you entitled to sick pay? Were the benefits of the ppi explained to you? If the answer is no to any of the above, go straight to the Financial ombudsman, who will deal with Barclays ( trading as barclaycard), the ombudsman has just ruled in my favour, the postal tick box, constitutes a sale, no information relating to that sale is mis-selling of ppi.:rotfl::rotfl:

    Did they actually say that?

  • I complained to barclaycard about the box being ticked, as I didn't recall ticking it,I also mentioned I received no Key facts of the ppi insurance policy, they ( barclaycard) sent me a photocopy of my original application, and yes the box had been ticked, but not by me, there is that chance they ticked it after I sent it to them. I asked on numerous occasions for terms and condition of the insurance policy, all they sent me were terms and condition relating to my barclaycard. They ( barclaycard) declined my ppi complaint. The FOS has just upheld it, as Barclays did not present the key facts of the policy,I was employed and entitled to sickness pay, The policy costs and benefits were not made clear, and no cooling off period offered. Don't be fobbed of by Barclaycard, the protracted case has only added more interest to the original refund I was entitled to. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Yep, All insurance policies have " Key Facts" if these are not made clear at the point of sale, then it's mis-selling. Why would you buy an insurance policy without understanding its costs and benefits?? I don't believe Barclaycard made it clear to tick box postal applications what the policy was,or worth, or if needed. They had and have a duty to advice. Not mis-lead. :T:T:T

Shame. It sounded for a second as if you had ticked thebox and asked for it by post and had your complaint upheld.

    Well done on your success.

    Hi
I had a company trying to claim back the ppi on my barclaycard the only thing is the company has gone into liquidation. So I'm still trying to get my money back after 2 years. I got a copy of my application forms from bcard and the box was ticked for ppi but I don't think I ticked it. I've had my card for nearly 20 years. I too think they ticked the box. I have sent them a email under the consumer credit act that I can have my money back what I paid this company. Then I will start a claim for ppi against bcard.
  • Having seen lots of adverts and reading about PPI claims I am wondering whether I have a valid claim so please can someone help me. I would like to do this myself rather than using a claims company as I have the time but don't know where to start. I have had a loan and several credit cards so thought I would make a start there. I had a loan with Barclays that I took out in 2009 but I just checked the paperwork and in a box at the top it says under 'Your loan agreement' PPI Premium Loan N/A. Does that mean I never paid any PPI insurance on it? I'm assuming that is the case. As for my Barclaycard, I am unaware of having any PPI insurance on it as I took the card out when I was 18, which was 14 years ago. I only have online statements now and when I did have paper statements it only ever told me the interest and didn't mention PPI. Could I have been paying it in with the interest without knowing it? If so, how would I know and therefore make a claim/prove it? I recently had a letter from Barclays Cardholder Protection telling me I might be entitled to claim PPI and they would let me know in 6 weeks time so I might have a claim there although again, I'm not sure how as I didn't know I had PPI insurance on that either. Please can someone help me with any of this? Thanks

No, the PPI cannot be hidden in the interest charges, it appears as a separate item on the monthly statement.
