Barclaycard PPI - ticked box?

Hi
I have been trying to reclaim my PPI charges from Barclaycard and they have sent me my original application form and the "Do you want PPI" box is ticked. I am convinced I didn't tick it and the tick is inconsistent with my ticks elsewhere on the form. So, I think Barclaycard have ticked it themselves! Has anyone else experienced this and where do I go from here?
Any help would be appreciated :)
Cheers

Is the tick put in by hand? Are you saying that they sent you the form with the PPI option already checked?

Also, is it just a "tick this box to add PPI" option or a "yes" or "no" to the question "would you like to add PPI?"
  • Hi Corbyboy
It's a tick to say "yes please can I have PPI".
They have sent me a copy of the application form I originally completed and there is a tick in the box for PPI, but i am sure i didnt tick it and the "tick" is inconsistent with the other ticks on the form which I did do. I guess what I am thinking is that I filled in the application and sent it back and they ticked it then. I did take a copy at the time but as it was 8 years ago I don't know where it is.
    Any advice woudl be great
    cheers

    Hi there

You could argue on this, but do you also have other reasons besides this perhaps?
Even if the agreement was signed it does not mean you wasn't mis sold, so check the checklist as well in case other reasons may apply, good luck.

Re ticking the box - the salesperson at DFS ticked our box and never explained anything about PPI or whether we had any medical conditions that would invalidate the insurance! They are still saying we are not entitled to anything as we signed the form.

I take it you tried to get the ppi back?. If this is the case get back to dfs and tell them you were mis sold and if they do not reconsider you will take this to the FOS.

Can they prove it was you that ticked the box? No they cannot. Go and complain!
  • Thank you everyone. I am going to send all my paperwork off to FOS and see what they say
    Cheers
  • I have just been sent a rejection of a PPI claim along with a photocopy of my application form with the box ticked. I am sure I did not tick the box and additionally the tick looks different from the others on the form. I have read other similar threads, what should I do? MBNA have said this is their final correspondence. All advice greatly recieved from what is a great site led by Martin, a legend!:)

    Hi there

Just to make sure, have you actually tried making the complaint/reclaim to the business first?
You can complain to the FOS once you made the complaint to the business who mis sold the PPI, if the business does not uphold or give you an offer by the final decision, then you move on to the FOS 6 months as from the final letter, the business will enclose the details of the FOS with the leaflet.

The reclaim questionnaires as on step 3 of the ppi reclaiming info as posted on my above post - were issued by the FOS to use to complain to the banks/businesses.

Hope this helps and I apologise if you've already done this, good luck.;)

    Hi there

So you have made the complaint by using the step 3 questionnaire below I take it?
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance#step3

If the final decision is made, did they enclose details of the Financial ombudsman service (FOS)?
They should let you know if you can do this or not in the final letter, so if so then you can now make that complaint to the FOS.

More details on how to complain to the FOS below.
    http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/consumer/complaints.htm

    Good luck.
