Thanks for all your comments/ideas. Yes I've been to Looms alot over the past couple of weeks and I shall keep going there. Hardly any clios in there - hope that's a good sign!!
I certainly wont give up looking anyway
Thanks again.0 -
I go to 4 scrap yards regularly (SouthWales) they all allow you to wander, you just have to ask. The ones that don't let you wander - guess what- I don't go to them -they are also coincidently more expensive. There is a 5th one that also lets you wander but I don't go there v often.
IMO what you should do (assuming you find one that lets you wander) is to show the part at the front desk, ask if they have any clios, and if you can go and get just this wheel, and of course the price, before you bother going to look.
Scrappies will keep a car for only a limited amount of time before they crush it, so IMO the idea that you are stopping them from selling the whole unit will not necessarily apply, they may never get a customer wanting a window unit for a clio and the car will get crushed with the window units still in the doors.
Good luck with your search.0 -
Agree with Wig completely. I always show the old part and get a price check before entering. I reckon on average you will get a better price this way, as your showing your price conscious, and its far easier to turn round and walk out if the price is unrealistic, but they've got you by the !!!!!!!! if you've already just spent 45mins finding and dismantling a part as you won't be so happy to leave it then. My local scrappy also seems happy to sell small parts on the basis that "any sale's better than none".0

I often go there to stock up on stuff. They make their prices up too.
It's a a pain to find if you dont know the area though.
I've known Gary at furbers for many years, he's a cracking chap.
Main issue with the window reg is that its a common failure on the clio and its only the clip that breaks. Not even Renault sell the clip on its own0 -

I'd be interested in knowing which scrappies these are. The only local one I know wont do this and are also a right bunch of miserable ****s. Tried to charge me double after I asked for a set of 10 rear wheel studs for a Volvo 940 and they took the front ones off instead, which have a different fitting.0 -
I've used these guys (clicky here) for parts and they've worked when fitted!:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!0
