HTC Smart is another good cheap and simple smartphone.

Thanks for all the replies, I am really grateful.

ATM I am hovering between the sanfransisco with a giff gaff package and a pay monthly package deal. The trouble with the package deals is that they seem to limit the data package to 500mb's. I have no idea whether that will be enough or not. I'll mainly be using it to check e-mails and send photos to facebook as I have my laptop and wifi at home.

But having said that, I'm looking at a 24 month contract, which is a long time in technology terms - I can remember a time when I used to send about 30 texts a month.....

    Decisions, decisions....

I think 500M is sufficient if you don't watch TV/youtube etc. and don't download a lot.
Also at Tmobile/ChitterChatter 500M limit applies to downloads only. General surfing is unlimited.

Sorry for being a numpty - I assumed that if I looked at an e-mail or a facebook page, or indeed any web page, that would be a download?

So are some webpages downloads and some not?

AAARRGGGHHH!!!! I didn't realise it would be this confusing!

    Thanks :o

Fair Use Policy for internet on your phone

However much you use the internet, you'll never get charged extra
We're the only operator to offer you a fixed price for browsing and emailing on your phone with no limits and no extra charges.
    • Use 3G for getting online on your phone when you're out and about
    • Never pay more than your monthly fixed price
    • You can always browse and email with no limits
    Is there an allowance?
You can browse and email as much as you want.
There is a 500MB allowance for streaming videos and uploading and downloading files. If you hit this limit during the month, you won't be able to do this stuff again until the next month.
For the best internet on your phone, connect to your home WiFi, so you won't even touch your 500MB allowance.
    What about using apps?
Some apps use a normal internet connection, so they will work just like your browsing and email allowance. But there are some apps that use streaming connections, so these will fall into the 500MB allowance.
It's not that I advocate using T-mobile. I am with other network.
