Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Saturday 16th April. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning all
Lazy start here, didn't get up til 6, I've made hubby a bacon & egg sarnie & copious amounts of tea while he watches the GP Qually. I've done online banking this morning & got the WM & DW going, 1st lot of washing is on the line & the fish have been fed. Hubby will have a proper breakfast when the Qually has finished & I'll have mine then too, he'll have full english & is skinny as a rake, I'll have scrambled egg as I'm not.
I didn't get half the stuff done that I needed to last week, so 'Must try harder' this week.
Have a great day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning Hester and all who follow / cross. Have 3 loads out on the line already (2 were done in the machine last night) and another load about to finish. Haven't done much this week, so loads to be done! Its supposed to be a lovely day too. Need to get to Post Office to send off my ebay sales. Will then attempt a bit of drilling and tidying up before tackling the ironing mountain that has taken over the sofa. OS - have got curry and oops'd poppadoms and naans for tea.Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
Morning Hester and all to follow,
I've been up since half six but don't feel too jaded for it. The sun is shining and my children have smiles on their faces so all is good!
First of all thank you to everyone for their supportive comments re: the house sale and my current job situation. As far as the house is concerned i'm getting tentatively excited about completion on Thursday and as far as work is concerned, I've got another sick note for a month ( my GP has been very supportive) and my union is contacting work to arrange a meeting. Work weren't very happy that i'd involved union but that it just tough!!
Have a friend staying at the moment OH served with her in army and she's currently in UK visiting so it's lovely to see her. The little darling treated us to a chinese takeaway last night, what a treat!!!!!
Our family and friends are being amazing in our current financial situation, OH's mum sent us packing with a carrier bag of meat and yogurts and essentials yesterday. I find generosity and practical support like that always touches me a bit
Maybe i'm just a little too hormonal!!
Today I will get the washing basket emptied, got some dandelions ready to make more wine, and picked some nettles and wild garlic yesterday on our dog walk so will turn that into a soup for todays lunch - I hope everyone likes it!!
Hopefully just a potter about the house day today then unless OH has other plans and has us exploring forests again ( don't ask!!)
Take Care All

Lovely day here, wm is on, house cleaned from top to bottom yesterday so I shall get out in the garden today. Just need to pot on some plants, grass cut yesterday too and weeding done. I seem to have too much time on my hands when at home at the moment now I am on my own and end up looking for jobs to do to pass the time!
Hope everyone has a good weekend

Morning all!
Had a lovely day with my girls yesterday, but boy was I pooped when we got home lol! The kids are with their dad today, so I'm meeting my best friend for lunch and then having a hunt around the second hand furniture shops - the girls need a couple of chests of drawers, and I think I might need something a bit stronger than the average, so thinking utility furniture may be the way to go, not pretty, but we can have a go at painting it!
OS stuff will be a S&S of the kitchen, a whizz round with the hoover and loading the assorted appliances - DW, WM, BM, flask for yoghurt!
Time now for a cuppa and a catch up, as I haven't read over the past few days properly! Hope everyone has a good day xxxGC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
Morning Troops,
DC2 has been up since silly o'clock. DH has been up half the night, not well. DC1 is coughing fit to bust and DC2 is following suit.
Need to start looking at packing for the holiday today. Though if the brood is ill then they won't be able to go see Nan.
Sausage and bean cassoulet for dinner tonight, I think.
Hope everyone has a good day.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
My sister never ceases to amaze me. BF proposed while they are on holiday (I had a sneaking suspicion that was the plan). She's just e-mailed that she's getting married on Monday while out in Thailand. There go my bridesmaid hopes. I'm really happy for her but I imagine my mum is distraught.

Hi everyone - just popping in with a cup of coffee before I start baking. I need to make some bread and a cake, and then prep the veg and chicken for a stir-fry tonight. Yesterday, I peeled some spuds and left them in water in a saucepan on top of the hob until I needed them later in the day. Instead of putting the saucepan lid on to keep them covered, I plonked a piece of kitchen roll on top instead. Sometime during the day, the kitchen paper dropped into the water but some of it was still outside the pan so it wicked what looked like gallons of water all over the hob and down into the oven underneath. I didn't notice it at all until I went to turn the oven on and all the electrics blew! We had to hurry out for a takeaway while it all dried off. Luckily, the oven is fine this morning but that's something I will never do again!
Well, the sun is shining and the sky is blue so it looks like it will be a lovely day. The people who have bought our old barn are doing the last bit of demolishing today so we will then have to see if we can find some good topsoil to cover the barn's footprint. We're really pleased the barn is going - it was a horrid ugly thing that seemed to dominate the view.
Well, not much else to say right now so I suppose I'd better go and start baking.
I hope you all have a great day.

CAt-Smith - just seen your post. The sudden wedding seems very romantic, especially set in Thailand, but I can understand how you and your mum must be feeling.KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:

Morning everyone.
Beautifoooooool day here. Sun is shining, not a cloud in sight so far
Had pants night sleep with DD who has got an awful barking cough. she ended up in our back tossing and turning and not giving me much sleep.
Mum and dad popping round with an elderly friend this morning so she can see the kids.
Then me and the ankle biters are having our hair cuts. I am having the chop  I've been growing my hair for nearly a year and I don't like it. When I was 18 I had fairly long hair and I've been aiming for something similar. BUT since having kids the kinky bits in my hair have just got worse so it just looks ratty now as despite blowdrying it straight it does it's own thing. I don't want to use my straightners everyday so I think I am just going to go back to a short bob. H is bit disappointed as he likes longer hair but hey ho.
Might fit in some baking this morning if I get chance. Tea will be pizza for me and the kids, not sure what H will have.
Cat-smith - I know it's each to their own but I know how you must be feeling. If you have a family how generally get along and are close I cannot comprehend why you wouldn't want to share one of the most fantastic days with those that love you. i had 65 guests at my wedding and that was it. it made me feel wonderful to know all these people were here just for us and I can't imagine not giving my dad the pleasure of giving me away and denying my mum the excitement of watching us get hitched. Perhaps they will have a blessing cermony when they come back home? xxxI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife

Am off to work later but got to take DS2 to work first - he's doing some overtime:) he's doing well at his job, well settled now and much more confident with the customers(I've sneakily observed him while I've been in the shop:o) he's done well with his City and Guilds too so they said:):T
Have had a quick tidy and have mopped the kitchen floor. WM on its final spin. I'm on a late shift today so not home till 10.30pm. DH in charge at home.
Nothing else to report.
