Touch Screen

Firstly, I don't think that LG Cookie screen is worse that Tocco lite's.
Secondly OSF is far too complex and delicate handset for just "making / receiving calls and the odd text".
Thirdly, all androids are far too big (except Sony Miny) and have low battery life. You don't need a big screen for basic calling and texting.
And finally, I think there are less expensive androids with capacitive screen then OSF.0 -

PAYG Samsung Tocco Lite is £50 at T-mobile with £5 cashback through TCB.Bonking_Mad wrote: »I was thinking I may be able to get 2 touch screen phones for around £100
Locked to T-mobile I guess.0 -
Well I recently wanted to try a cheap touch screen phone for calls, texting and occasional internet use. I settled on the Alcatel OT-710 from Carphone Warehouse which had a PAYG deal on Orange for £40 (£30+ £10 Orange top up.)
Good points - phone was already unlocked so I was able to use an existing Tesco Mobile card I had straight away. I sold the Orange sim card on Ebay.
- battery life is good lasting a week on standby between charges
- 3 inch screen is nice and clear.
Not so keen on - no speed dial feature. Instead, you have to go into
your directory of contacts and choose from your nominated favourite numbers. Just an extra button or two to press but it's a bit irritating.
-internet is slow compared to a smartphone and some sites eg Google Maps don't work very well.
Overall though it's been a cracking little device which I would recommend as a cheap touch screen phone. I had to buy it from the CW website as the local shops were out of stock.0 -

My wife and I are in our later years of life, all this technology is beyond me
it appears I'm out of my league, as I was thinking I may be able to get 2 touch screen phones for around £100
You should be able to, something like the Samsung Tocco is ok for calls amd texts and the screen is quite good for resistive. Just steer clear of the bargain basement stuff from manufacturers you probably haven't heard of. Even the newer cheap Nokias still have resistive screens but work well.
The Tocco lite shouldn't cost more than around £50 depending on network.====0 -
What is it with everyone wanting touch-screens all of a sudden?
Don't look at a touch-screen as an objective in itself, it's only a means to do a few certain things that don't work well using buttons.
Unless it's a very, very well written interface (rare) and a (relatively) expensive handset, then you're only asking for a more fiddly phone, that is more of a pain to use in day-to day operation.
They're useful for features or functions where you need to manipulate something on-screen (like panning the map in a GPS app), or if you use spreadsheets, Word documents & suchlike where the buttons might be a limitation, but for simple calling/texting, a well-laid out set of buttons by far & away beat a touch-screen for simplicity, ease of use & speed.
I spent ages trying to find a phone with both a qwerty & touchscreen (as I do use both GPS & office docs), but in the end I had to compromise & go with an OSF which is touch-screen only.
Not a day goes by when I don't lament the lack of keyboard & would happily accept it going up by like 50% size if they'd included one.

have you practiced on the touch screens before?
have used a touch screen for years, but when i take out my old phones (wet weather biking etc) theres something pleasantly simple about texting/calling on a keypad based phone
not all touch screens are equal and many have a poor implementation0
