Touch Screen

Any ideas / suggestions where I can buy the cheapest PAYG touch screen phone? the cheaper the better, a colleague at work said I'd be looking around £100.00!!!! Yikes

All I need it for is making / receiving calls and the odd text

ANyone know if places like Tesco / Asda do touch screen PAYG?

The Orange Shop has the Lisbon at half price, and Argos have various up to 30.

Considering that the full sim-free price of some touch screen phones is much less that £100, I would say your friend is mistaken. If you want straightforward decent phone the Orange San Francisco is available under £100.

Depends if you want a smart phone or just a touch screen phone. I had this one and it was a great little phone, easy for texting etc. I have since changed to the OSF and I would say if you could afford the additional money, you wouldn't be disappointed.

I've no idea what the difference is between a smart phone & a touch screen :o

At present, I have a standard mobile, where I have to use keys letf / right / up down etc., etc.,

I'm looking for something much simpler, for example where I can touch the screen and scroll down with my finger.

Smartphones are not simple, especially until you learn and get used to them. For just making and receiving calls and occassional SMS there is no point to get smartphone.

OK thanks, it's just a case of finding the cheapest touch screen PAYG.

Unfortunately not, as the cheapest touch screen phones have horrible cheap (old technology) resistive touch screens which will probably put you off touch screens for life.

Buy the best you can, and if possible try and get some use on any phone you are considering buying before you buy it.

Not all touch screens are equal...

Oh dear  looks like I'm back to square 1 :o

I'd rather not spend to much money, as I'm after 2 touchscreen phones, one for her indoors, one for me, she's on O2 whilst I'm on Orange, both of us are on PAYG, and would prefer to stay PAYG.

Dam technology :o wish I was 50 years younger :)

Anyway, thanks for the advice offered so far.

Come on, my wife has Tocco lite with a resistive screen. No problems with day-to-day using. For basic functions it's probably even better than over-sensitive capacitive one that often does something that you didn't intend to do.

The tocco lite is one of the better resistive screens (and isn't a super cheap phone either), go and try something like a T-Mobile Vairy touch or one of the cheap Alcatels or similar, and you will see how bad some screens can be.

And capacitive screens aren't normally super sensitive, they are normally more precise in use, and don't need a stylus for precision work. If you can afford capacitive, (which doesn't have to break the bank, the Orange San Francisco is only around £89) it is a better technology than even the good resistive screens. And multi-touch only works on capacitive, due to the way resistive works it can't have gestures, so useful things like pinch to zoom are only available with capacitive.
