Hi All

Have been reading about the remap deal on HUKD then realised that VAG meant Volkswagon Audi Group so couldn't do our cars!

We have an 04 S-Type 2.5l petrol and a 02 Hyundai Coupe 2l and are quite interested in getting a remap done, for the fuel efficiency and not the power!

Any experiences, guidance and advice gratefully received.

Thanks in advance

    me personally i wouldn't bother

I had a Renault Sport Clio 197 remapped a year or so ago. It took the standard 197bhp to 201bhp

I paid £300 for the remap and my fuel efficiency never changed

Remap's imo are better suited to Turbo cars given the bigger amounts of power achieved

Had my 2l. petrol turbo remapped and managed to increase mpg from 30 on the drive down to 38mpg on the way back.If its power you are after then turbo certainly benefit more as they usually increase the boost at the same time but when tuning for economy this is usually in ofboost situations.I asked the mapper to give me an economical map around 65mph in offboost situations and as I have a wideband lambda fitted linked to a display I can actually see the a/f ratio leaning off at this speed.
Most "remaps" are generic though and are simply a reflash of the ecu to a slightly more agressive map.Bespoke ones are where you will get the gains but usually cost a bit more. You could get gains in mpg from either car but unless you ar eplanning on keeping them for a long time or do a lot of mileage it might not be worth it.

As these cars don't have a turbo don't bother.

If you want more power from an S type change it for a 3.0 or V8!
  • i wouldnt bother at all to be honest. hyundais hate being altered with regards to having a chip or remap for anytype of improvements like power and mpg gains.

with the hyundai you may get a better mpg by buying a aftermarket airfilter, not a cheapy that makes allot of noise and nothing else but a K&N or piper panel filter direct replacment (wich is cleanable and save you a few pounds come service time) more mpg with a smoother ride style, more throttle response when you need it.

a stainless exhaust can give increased MPG also from cat back but that jag is massivly long and will cost just about the same as a remap.

With diesel and petrol turbo cars a remap can add a fair few bhp but standard petrol models usually dont.

As stated above, don't bother. Unless it's got a turbo then a remap will do very little and the cost far outweighs the saving.

I have had my last 2 cars remapped and loved it, But these were turbo's.

As above no turbo, then not much of a gain to be made.

    like what has been said.

there isnt any point to mapping them because your not going to get a desired affect i.e MPG gain and very little BHP gains.

you can improve you MPG and BHP by making subtle changes, K&N replacemnt panel filter, stanless exhaust (by the way if your thinking i dont want it to sound like a fart tin their made to your specified noise level so if you want it quiet then thats how it will sound), inline fuel savers.

It will depend on the car's base map.If its one where its overly rich in certain areas(unburnt fuel is often used to cool in cylinder temperatures down) then you can get gains in mpg but you are better off checking with the Jaguar/Hyundai owners club forums and see if anyone has experience of it there.
Like I said, I gained 8mpg on the motorway due to certain low load areas being leaned off and that is in an offboost part of the map.I also gained more power when on boost.
