    Ferf mate,

I think you're barking up the wrong tree. Looking at the current crop of Groupons for my area all of the offers allow you to buy multiples except this one:
    groupon.co.uk/deals/edinburgh/snozone/341170
which has as it's fine print "Limit 1 per person, may buy a maximum of 4 more as gifts", I've been a Groupon-er for several months and this is standard Groupon wording, as their FAQ's make clear. If the fineprint says "Limit 1 per person", then you can only buy 1, if it doesn't, then you can buy more than 1. That's how it works. Period.

Try my luck again and ask my question once more ;). What would be happening if I cancel a booking with voucher? Can I reuse the voucher for another booking is this voucher then not good anymore? Will they refund me the £5 for the payment which they deducted.

    Many thanks
  • @sm1234,

    Spot on explanation.

Which is why there is no valid explanation that Alpharooms can have for cancelling bookings.

Yes, in hindsight they and Groupon may have realised that the wording of the promotion did not reflect Alpharooms planned intention, but that is not the fault of the customer, and the offered deal must be honoured by Alpharooms, warts and all.

All Alpharooms are doing is attempting to change the rules after the event.

In my particular case, Alpharooms has not stated that I am not allowed to use more than one Groupon. Instead they have claimed that the two bookings are a "linked booking". There is clearly nothing in the Groupon Fine Print prohibiting "linked bookings" so clearly Alpharooms had no legally valid reason to use this as an excuse for cancelling the bookings.

Also, as the Alpharooms confirmed booking transaction for the first date clearly requires me to check out by a specific time of day, and as the second booking transaction requires me to check in no earlier than a specific time of day, and as there is a time gap inbetween, then it clearly cannot even be argued by Alpharooms to be a linked booking as they already have knowledge of that time gap between check out and check in times.

Instead of there being a stated prohibition on linked bookings, the offer stated in the Fine Print that "Groupon can be redeemed against any room on any date on offer on the website at time of booking". The inference is clearly that the customer can use more than one coupon to make a booking transaction for any hotel on any date, irrespective of whether it is the same hotel and a seperate booking transaction is made for each of two consecutive dates with a Groupon being used for each transaction.

I tried this before, but will try again.

Why have the note about being able to buy multiples as gifts, if there was no restriction on how many one could buy for their own use? That wouldn't make sense - if you can buy and use as many as you want, why mention that you can buy multiple Groupons as gifts?

I've used Groupon for well over a year - mostly for Vegas, I understand how it works.

  • @Ferf,

Your comment conveniently missed out the relevant bit:

"No. If the Fine Print states "1 Groupon per person", you can only redeem one yourself"

Obviously as "1 Groupon per person" was not stated in the Fine Print for the Alpharooms offer, then clearly more than one Groupon can be redeemed by each person.

As for your comments on "gifts", that is just a confirmation that you can buy Groupons and give them as gifts to others to use, and that you are not restricted to only using them yourself.

sorry, I didn't miss that out, I ignored it for reasons I've stated earlier...but I disagree on your interpretation of the gifts clause, sorry.

I do hope that all affected reach a conclusion they are happy with...though clearly that's going to be quite unlikely.

Interestingly, my bookings have not been canceled. I booked at two different hotels, might that be the case why is has not been "spotted" yet. Did the other guys, that got their room canceled, book consecutive nights at the same hotel, booking each night with a different voucher code. Which under normal circumstances would probably be booked in one transaction
  • @ferf,

My interpretation of "gifts" being a clarification that a person can give the Groupons to other persons as gifts to use simply reflects the fact that some Groupon offers specifically do not allow such gifting.

Look, you tried it on and got your fingers burnt. Get over it and move on, you knew what it meant but decided there was mileage in interpreting things your way. As I have stated many times before this site should be called "Findtheloophole.com" Some companies are actually trying to legitimately drum up business by offering incentives, in fact I know that a business that enters into a deal on Groupon only receives 1/2 of the voucher value. So this sites main objective seems to find some sort of wording in an offer that allows a truck to be driven through it, and thousands join the gravy train, forcing a deal to be pulled and the innocent punters just wanting to by one of something being caught in the crossfire.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

stoneman - if you can show me the term and condition which states one voucher per customer or that people cannot make multiple reservations, then I will move on

    thanks
