Alpharooms cancel my Groupon voucher reservation

I purchased 3 vouchers so that my friend could book 3 consecutive reservations at the same hotel. He used one voucher per night. Each booking was for a twin room.

We've just had an email from Alpharooms stating:

"You have made a booking using Group On vouchers. The Group On offer was for one voucher per customer. You have used multiple vouchers on your booking which contravenes the terms and conditions of the Group On voucher offer."

One voucher per reservation was used.

The fine print stated:

"1 Groupon per transaction, may buy multiple as gifts. "

So I bought 3 vouchers. And my friend made 3 reservation in his name.

Has anyone got any advice?

It's one voucher per customer not reservation.
Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.

    Where does it say that?

I can see that the t&c's were ambiguous, but in reality your interpretation was a little too literal and you got caught out. I don't see that you have grounds for complaint.

If its ambiguous it's a potentially unfair contract. I think I will rebook elsewhere and take them through the small claims court.

If you feel that it is an unfair contract, ask them to put you back to the position that you were in before you formed the contract. Oops, they already have! Groupon will refund you for the voucher also if you email them.

    I've stuck to the T's and C's. They haven't.

I will now incur extra expense. Hence I will claim against them.

You have stuck to your overly literal interpretation of the t&c's. They have stuck to what they intended the terms to be, and to what anyone with common sense would have read them as.

Good luck in court, do come back and let us know how you get on! :p

At best you will get a refund by going through the small claims court.

Unless Groupon are refusing to refund you I don't see what the point is.

I've just emailed groupon asking for a refund. However alpharooms conveniently emailed 7 days and 40 minutes after the voucher activation. The groupon limit is 7 days for a refund.

Alpharooms did not state that it was one voucher per customer at the time of the offer. They stated in their email that multiple vouchers were used for "a booking". This is patently untrue. Therefore their reasoning and action is unjustified and outwith Terms and Conditions.

Furthermore, since the vouchers can be gifted, even if, they say you can only gift one voucher that would mean that 2 reservations would be cancelled not all three.

You are basing your argument on semantics. The court will not accept this.

If you explain the situation to Groupon they will refund you. I have had refunds outside seven days several times.
