Packing list for Cairo - have I missed anything?

I would take some toilet roll and I always take the following "first aid kit"
paracetamol, ibuprofen, migraleve, eye drops, plasters, immodium
Sun hats are a good idea.0 -
Don't take anything for dodgy guts, spewing or the trots. They'll only work short term. ie a day. If you get any of these see the local quack straight away and he/she will sort you out good and proper for about £20.
Might sound a lot, but believe me, its worth every penny. I've been twice and both times i've been bad and had to see the quack. As has everyone i've met who's been to Egypt.Vedra Nativa0 -

Last time I went both myself and my husband were fine but only because we were very careful.
Only botteled water (sealed) including brushing teeth.
No fruit you can't peel or raw veg (including salad).
I think you can be OK (because I've done it) but you have to be totally rigorous.0 -
A moneybelt to keep your travellers cheques/changed money in safely. I only carry "walking around money" in my bag/purse, and stash the rest in my moneybelt.0

Thanks everyone for your replies. I'm planning on being really strict with the washing of hands, food eaten and will have antibacterial hand spray with me all the time. I took my children to Vietnam 2 years ago and was really strict with it then and we were all fine. But I'm taking some medication just incase.
We leave tomorrow at 7am. So I'll let you all know how it was when I get back. Must admit I'm carping myself a bit!!2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040 -
Well we got back yesterday after having a great time. No one was ill or had a dicky tummy at all.
I would say to anyone thinking of going there in about december to january you don't need a sunhat, sunscreen or insect repellent. The weather is about the same as it is on an average summer day in the UK at that time of the year and it's only that temperature from about 11am to 3pm. The rest of the time you will need to wear a decent jumper or cardigan and at night you will need a coat.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040 -
Welcome Back and glad you had a great time."Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."0

Well here's our programme of events for the week:
Tuesday- Pyramids, Papyrus Museum and a dreaded perfume shop followed by a couple of hours in the pool.
Wednesday - Egyptian Museum, Citadel and Mohammed Ali Mosque (we were treated like scum in the latter for not being muslims). Followed by 2 hours in the pool.
Thursday - Day in and around pool and then evening at the Sound and Light show at the pyramids.
Friday - Giza Zoo (treated like scum again), Cairo tower and swimming pool.
Saturday - Coptic area and Coptic museum and boat trip up the Nile.
Sunday - Walk to the pyramids and dinner out.
Monday - 4am start for journey home
I would urge anyone who's going to try and avoid areas where locals go unless you have a very thick skin. Being a goth I'm used to people staring but even I felt self conscious by the end of the holiday as muslim women in Cairo are not the politest of people and will point and laugh at you for not wearing a headscarf. In some areas you are made to wear a smelly old sheet round you for not being a muslim. Slightly spoilt the holiday really.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040 -
Wow b-s, you really saw a lot didn't you !
What a shame that you were treated so badly in some places - I can well imagine how it would have affected your enjoyment of the place.
Did you see the 'City of the Dead' - absolutely surreal.
& the Cairo Museum ?
Did you like the Sound & Light show ?
Come on, spill the beans :j
