They should advertise on the box, "Sometimes these break down, but you may be extremely lucky and have it beyond 6 Months".
I dont think I will ever consider purchasing one after reading this thread, it sounds outragious that they can shrug shoulders and say "Tuff Luck Mate!":A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

I have had my iPod nano for well over two years (2nd gen), my partner has has her shuffle (1st gen) since it came out and its still running fine!!!!
IMHO apple design and build all their products much better than other companies,
however i brough the Sony Net MD and both of them kept failing and spent more time being repaired than in my ear!!!!:beer:In My 'Permanant' Pre-Masters Gap Year

I have half a dozen ipods here of all generations. The one in OH's car is one of the very first black and white screen ones. never had a problem with any of them.
**edited to add**
A new HD for a 20 gig is around £50 delivered, there are instructional video's on Youtube on how to replace these yourself. It's not overly complex and you can buy ipod repair tools from ebay.0 -
This is a wee bit cheeky but you could always try buying the same i pod just for new box and reciept and returning your dead ipod in the new box with the new reciept for cash back . I have done this erm once (!) .All I can do is be me, whoever that is

Ive still got my 4Gig Mp3 player with FM radio (some cheapo Japanese make) that still runs for a good 8hours a day on 1 AAA re-chargeable battery, ive had this now for nearly 6 years all for the total cost of £29. No Ipod could ever compare to it in either product or prisewise IMHO.
Yes but no other mp3 player, bar the iPhone/Touch can compare in ease of use, even iTunes makes it simple to manage the iPod. and with around 70% worldwide market share Apple must be doing something right!
but we will have opposing opinions!!:beer:In My 'Permanant' Pre-Masters Gap Year

i originally went with ipods for their integration
eg car head units etc
even sony dont inegrate thier own MP3 players in their head units
however i like the ipods even if they are over priced and should have a built in radio0 -

For Apple I would say I prefer the Apple Mac to the PC, but thats s far as it goes for me. I don't have to convert my MP3's to play on my MP3 player, and find it generally easy (if not as easy) to use, concerning the software.
I guess for me its the cost of them that doesn't make the Ipod good value for money, albeit I do fancy the Iphone at least until a cheaper equivelent is produced.
I just couldnt justify paying that much more, just because it has a better shuffle feature than a cheaper equivelant.
Additionally, (although not relevant to the thread) I have two MP5 players for movies, both have the same 40Gig, One is a Philips which cost £90 but I prefer the cheaper £40 Japanese equivelant, because I dont have to convert the movies to play on it, (it even plays FLV files), the buttons are not on display at the front of the player (leaving it just a widescreen mini portable movie player), it has an internal speaker and is much more user freindly.
Leaving my Philips Mp5 player, as merely another MP3 player with an FM radio.
I have nothing against Apple Ipod's except I think they are too expensive and not as reliable as the cheaper equivelants.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A
