Fujitsu Siemens Laptop Li 2727

Hi all

Wondering where we stand on this Laptop Issue (please bare with us as it may turn into a long one!)

We purchased a Siemens Laptop form Comet back in Oct 2008, which I registered with Barclays Bank on my Current Account Plus (until Oct 2010). This gave me a free 2nd year extended warranty incase of any problems and peace of mind.

As always, the laptop was well for the initial 12 months, and indeed for the next 7 months until May last year, when the laptop developed a flickering screen fault. So I contact Barclays, and they kindly agreed for the laptop to go in to for repair and gave me a contact number for a 3rd party PC Repair Company.

So I contacted the recommended repairer (Comart Plc, Rotherham), and booked in for repair. After approx 20 days it was returned fixed, and came with a 3 month warranty on part/s replaced. Barclays paid Comart £212 for the initial repair.

However, after 6-8 weeks, it developed the same fault again and this went on and on for the next 5 months until the 2nd year warranty ran out (Oct 2010)

I then had to argue the toss with Barclays and Comart as to who was now responsible for future repairs, (should the same issue occur) as it was now outside both 1st and 2nd year extended warranty. Throughout the past year, Barclays had always stated they would only pay Comart for separate issues, and therefore had only paid once, as this is an ongoing issue from the inital repair.

Including the first repair, around June 1st 2010,the laptop has been sent for repair FIVE times, and has only just came back after the latest repair a week gone Monday - They stated it has sat in their work, has undergone several tests, but no issues (flickering screen) occur.

Each time Comart have had the Laptop, they state components have been replaced: Motherboard, Harness Cable, Inverter, TFT Screen.

At times, it can be perfect (like now, as I time this!), but then it can flicker for hours on end and, when you have a business to run, and need the laptop to write and read emails, and to design/update your website, it really isnt any use whatsoever.

Like I say, it came back on April 4th, was use-able for the first 3 days but the developed the same flickering screen issue that has been frequently occuring over the past 8-9 months.

They are saying it is a "location" issue, and to take the laptop to a friends, families, or local internet cafe, at least 1 mile from home, and test it there. We have done this (my parents, OH's parents, and OH place of work - all 3 are between 5-19 miles from our home address)

If we sent it back to Comart again, it is just going to sit on a workbench and "supposely" undergo testing again. (They have said all 4 IT workshop techies are tested and found no issues)

I really need to know where we stand. I am now unemployed, OH is still self-employed, but we both require the laptop for use on a daily basis. We're hoping someone can help as to where we go from here.

Can we use a local PC company to test laptop? Who pays any charges if we can do this, and what options do weh have if the issues keep occuring, are Comart liable for replacement of Laptop?

Thanks for reading!
Dave

In what respect... ? Initally when testing it showed flickering screen, hence why they replaced parts. It only last time then they tested, nothing came back. Iirc, they have done "soak test" and i'm almost sure a "stress test was mentioned too

Your contract is with the seller ot the repair company, ask them for an engineers report and if they say it's inherently faulty get in touch with whoever you bought it from and go after a better repair, replacement or refund under the sales of good act.

Re-read wealdroams post, you haven't told us what happened when you tested in other locations.

I have a engineers report for repairs between June 2010 - Feb 2011.

Re: Testing in other areas. Flickering still occured in all locations when tested. Tested browsing internet, sending emails, just what we would do at home

    what now bud?
