Corelli Road is not quite what I'd call Blackheath, more like Kidbrooke and you need to be careful as much of Kidbrooke gets classified as Blackheath because of the SE3 postcode. I wouldn't consider a house where the ea hasn't even been brave enough to put up a pic of the frontage.

The one in Southover is actually in Downham, which is a far cry from what I'd call Bromley. Downham is an area with a lot of problems and a bit too close to Catford for my liking.

    Thanks everyone for replying.

So, could you please be bit more specific about the area in general (Corelli Road), what usually would be the kind of issues I would face on a day to day basis, is it closer to the Ferrier estates , doesnot look like an area where there is high crime statistics, has good schools, parks etc, well located to london.

If you were to choose between the 4 which would be your first and last priority in regards to the area?

To be honest, I do not have more than £220-(250 max)k and I need atleast 3 bed house, I understand location for many is the priority but again why would I buy a 1 bed flat for the same price in a posh area where there is a possibilty that in few years time it may become a chav town, never know, well like you said Horses for courses.

As long as it is not really bad area we should be fine, i guess?

Thanks for the info on Downham area, I shall look for areas close to Bromley station the.

    Many thanks once again.

I don't know Orpington at all, so cannot comment on the area, but if was pushed to chose one from your list, it is what I'd go for as it's new and not on a council estate. Although my understanding is that ex council properties are quite generous on room sizes and storage, which new properties are not famed for.

I guess the 2nd one I would chose to look at, despite the lack of a pic of the front of the house would be Correli Road. I'd personally not waste time on the other 2 in your list.

The one in Alwood Cresent appears part of the Middle Park Avenue estate and isn't somewhere I'd chose to live. Eltham has much better areas than that, such as the Progress conservation area, with it's cottage style houses. It is very quaint and you can imagine yourself in the middle of somewhere such as Devon and there is plenty of green space on your doorstep and a couple of very good schools nearby.

Looking in the Bromley area that excludes Downham is a good idea. There are good houses that come up, but you need to be patient and snap one up quick when they present themselves.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
  • I live quite local to the area and would agree, blackheath is lovely but some of the close surrounding areas are vile.

    Very true!

my mum, still to this day, lives in lee park road, which runs from lee high road to blackheath station, she is at the top end by blackheath, and out of all those areas, it has to be the blackheath place which feels the safest.

That road has some lovely houses near to Blackheath.:)

I lived on the Progress estate and can concur with what cattie says. I did look on RM the other day as was going to suggest it too, but there wasn't really much available in their budget. I would be keeping my eyes on it though if I were buying. Apart from a few chavs on street corners and a fair amount of graffiti nearby, it was a nice place to live. I was there for around 5 years in a lovely 2 bed cottage.
