Someone bought 4! I dont know what they would use these for, as I dont believe you can burn to them all at the same time.
To sell 'em on eBay I expect.
Works fine on SuSE linux 9.2 using firefire cable.
Pity I couldn't get SuSE 9.2 to work on either of my laptops - something to do with power management :-(

Got one in StHelens today. Mine is a Samsung, strangely I saw on one drive ToshibaSamsung technology, didn't know they were linked.

Had 8 on show at 10.30. If you don't see any, just ask, they have more under the counters and in cupboards.

Min spec Pentium IV 2GH and 256mb Ram.

Got it this morning - It didn't recognise my verbatim DVD+R blanks so I phoned their support. It was not very good they just suggested trying diffferent makes until I got one that worked !!! - I then tried Samsung support and they were crap too !. I eventually found firmware update software at Samsung website - http://www.samsungoms-europe.com/samsung.php?section=download and now it works great !

Got mine yesterday afternoon to complement my soon to be delivered Dell base unit (£186).

They only had 2 left in Camborne at that time. Always had Aldi/Lidl down as doley type shops (no disrespect to those wanting to work but have no luck!)

Just got to wait for the Dell to come and then who knows what will happen. I have noted that some discs won't work but at least the last post does refer to the samsung site for support on this.

Well you're a victim of your own snobbery and prejudice then. If you search on here you'll see just how you've been ripped off because you see it as being beneath you to visit such places.

Mike, I too brought one of these drives but have a small problem I wonder could you help ?, I noticed the link for the Firmware however like some others on here I received a Samsung Hardware Drive flashed with a TSSTCorp Revision of FW, And although Nero OEM which is shipped with the drive works flawlessly I cannot get it recognised by some of my older software, Do you think I could use this firmware in the link to reflash the drive ?

I understand the problems that can be caused by failed flashing

    Any help would be appreciated

    Thanks

They aint like for like though, yes you can get the NEC for £35 but you pay more for an external one. I have heard of Gericom before I think Aldi stocked some Gericom hard drives in a while back.

I bought the hard drive and now the external dvd burner. Gericom are very good and use samsung parts, the dvd burner is a samsung burner, it just means that now i can burn a movie onto a dual layer disk without having to compress it so keeping the original quality.

Aldi have some very good pc deals and all the pc stuff is backed up with a 3 year warranty and also a local rate phone number if you have any technical problems.

Next week lidl are bringing out a very good top spec pc well worth the money!

  • This isnt working for me anymore now on SuSE. I dont know why. It just times out when it starts writing.
