so do you think i should cancel this policy with scottish widows? so if i dont die by the time i am 51 i get nothing at all, but i would of paid into it when it ends 6480

Just get normal life insurance. That way you're not tied in but they'll still pay out if you die.
Put it this way.. what are the realistic chances of you dying before 51???

The only other thing I missed is TV licence, it's not much but I found it was the little things that ended up costing a lot.

Ok, all becomes clearer! It is good to budget for the low paid months. Do you work at all? I guess you have a child, how old are they?

Could you talk to your family about your money problems? I am sure they would understand, maybe your brother/ MIL will reduce the payments until you are more sorted. I think you're very generous and at any other time I would applaud you on that but sometimes you just have to do what is best for your own family.

I think giving up smoking will make a huge difference, I believe that you can get free/ cheaper patches etc from your doctor. I wish you the best of luck with it.

For many the snowball method is the best, however I found paying off my overdraft was psychologically better, at least each month I would be in credit and at the end of the month I would be determined not to go back into the red. When I was overdrawn all the time I used to think, what the heck? It's only another £10....

It's probably a bit daunting at the moment, but take small steps, you will get there x

  • hubby will have to talk to his mum about the £80 monthly payment, she wont be happy about it but we cant afford to pay it.

I am going to cancel my scottish widows has well, will find out the policy and write to them and then cancel the direct debit, it comes out on the 15th of the month so hopefully i wont have to pay for this months payment, so will be saying £27.
  • what do you think about stopping the DMP with the other company and going to CCCS or Payplan?

  • the tv licence we pay every 3 months, we have got one, forgot about that.

I dont work at all but have been applying for jobs, will take anything just so that i can get some money into the house and help pay these debts off.

my daughter is 4 and now in full time school, so no excuse to stay at home now, no more kids are planned has we cant afford them and by time debt is paid off i will be too old.

I begrudge paying that money to hubbies family, we dont go on holidays cos we cant afford it but his family go abroad once a year, hell i wonder if that £80 a month is paying for it.

Smoking will def give up, in debt and cant afford it, have to make sacrifices.

Yes you can. A lot of people on here have had experience of companies that promise one thing and give you another.

Oh and as for you paying for their holidays.. wouldn't suprise me as £80 over 12 months is £960 which would go a long way towards a holiday!
