Moral dilemma - using car seats

I have a question / dilemma for you all,
You are aware that someone is frequently taking children out in a car and not using the correct restraints, you have previously mentioned it to a community officer but you dont know if anything was done (they werent given any details other than being told it was a family in the car park round the corner)
Do you 'report' them ? Turn a blind eye ? Also, what are the consequences of them being reported - is it a fine, points on licence ?
Any thoughts appreciated

I'd leave the leaflet with the correct info under the wiper on the car!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0

I think I might have to mention it again - don't think I could live with myself if there was an accident and the children were seriously injured or worse

My friend and her child who was sat on her knee in the front of the car were killed in a car accident, I would most definitely report if it can avoid another avoidable death.0

What if they just simply cannot afford seats? They aren't cheap!
i read a post here only yesterday where a lady had been seen strapping the year old child in a 3+ booster seat because she hadn't the money for a proper seat.. a fine would be just what they needed.. the children might not get food either then!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

To me that just isn't a good enough reason.
Can't you get 1 second hand?
Child benefit is intended to cover things like this. I realise that money can be really tight but this is not optional. If you are taking a young child in a car you need the appropriate restraints.
I agree that you should report them. Think how you'd feel if something happened.Wedding 5th September 20150 -

nor are cars - if they can afford to run a car, they can afford to get a car seat - there is no excuse for not keeping your children safe whilst in a car and abiding by the law
a child is not going to die if they are not given proper food but they could die if they were in an accident whilst not in a proper car seati read a post here only yesterday where a lady had been seen strapping the year old child in a 3+ booster seat because she hadn't the money for a proper seat.. a fine would be just what they needed.. the children might not get food either then!
report them !0 -
Thats potentially partly the reason pigpen, the other is they have a large family and wouldnt all fit in the correct seats. I know the excuses that will be given and that they are fully aware (who isnt these days) that its wrong.Bow Ties ARE cool "Just because you are offended, doesnt mean you are right" Ricky Gervais

Some people have different priorities.. and their childrens safety (and the law!) don't always come into it.
my oh has accused me of being OTT cautious with our seats.. I want all singing all dancing really expensive ones which provide higher safety.. I think stuff like fancy clothes are less important than their survival should be unlucky enough to have an accident... not everyone is the same. We regularly do 400 mile round trips to OH's family and motorways are death traps!mishkanorman wrote: »Thats potentially partly the reason pigpen, the other is they have a large family and wouldnt all fit in the correct seats. If you can afford to buy/run/insure a car, you can afford a one off payment for a car seat for the safety of your child. I think if the gentle approach hasn't worked I would report them to the police. If they cause an accident and cause harm to their own child due to negligence then it is on their conscience but what if someone else causes an accident and the child is unduly harmed because they were not properly restrained?0

If you cant afford a child seat the child shouldn't go in the car. Their safety is too important.SAHM Mummy tods (born Oct 2007) and dd (born June 2010)0
