Thanks Tawny... Guess I need to nag a bit more at OH to wipe down the shower after use!! Don't like the idea of using chlorine bleach too often though as I'm very sensitive to fumes (asthmatic) and the bathroom has no windows and the extractor fan wouldn't dissipate the fumes as quickly. Let me know how you get on with the Tea Tree Sadierhianne0

Oh, I'm just like that - I can hear the tape in my head beginning 'Hi, lovely to see you - excuse the mess ..', and I'm not trying really hard not to say anything, because (a) it points it out to them! and (b) I find it uncomfortable if someone says it to me, like I've caught them on the hop, so now I just try to be really welcoming and let that make up for any housework deficiencies. (A friend's kid really cheered me up by saying she thought my house felt just like being at home!)
Some of those people don't[i/] let anyone in - they've become social outcasts. It's a bit sad when the kids are affected because they can't have friends to stay.0 -
Sadierhianne wrote:I don't use bleach so will remove the shower head and soak it in tea tree and vinegar - although i guess that it the chlorine that kills it - hmmm bacteria in my bath ;-( Maybe tea tree will too - tis worth a try first.
It might do, actually - there are several reports online saying that Serratia is particularly sensitive to tea tree oil. Also to quaternary ammonium compounds, which are the active ingredient in a lot of commercial disinfectants like Savlon and Dettol. So there are alternatives to bleach for anyone having problems with it.0 -
Kim and Aggie should have got a medal each for going to the Fulford's house. That man is repellent. The other day my sis was saying how I should follow Trinny and Susannahs advice to get my clothing sorted (I am just not interested in clothes). I told her dont you dare send my name in. I would rather go on Kim and Aggie and get the place cleaned up!!!!Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

I don't want to start a row, but maybe some of the people on this thread should be glad they don't have health problems (physical or mental) which is what usually leads to people living that way. Most people who live in the kind of conditions shown on HCIYH tend to have underlying reasons for it, which is the one problem I have with the show, they never really address that (though it is only really a light entertainment thing, so you can't blame them).DFW stats:

Returning to the pink stuff in showers... if you don't like using bleach etc then how about having a spray bottle ready for after each shower with a mix of maybe teatree oil and lavender? (lavender I believe is also antifungal)
so with any luck they should keep it all nice between big cleans
