my new shower which is an over the bath shower really makes a mess - never had any problems with the cubicle shower but i have this pink stuff issue, it does wipe off but it seems to appear after every two or these uses.

We have the same problem with our over-the-bath shower  At first I thought it was my shampoo as I was using a similarly coloured one at the time, but its still appearing now I've switched brands

Possibly something to do with the pipes (maybe made of copper or something?) but ours is a new-build flat with up-to-the minute fixtures and fittings....

Anyway, back on topic, I love the show purely because it makes me look like a domestic goddess :A
  • Nope it's not shampoo, i use a clear shampoo and all my fixtures and fittings in that part of the house are brand new too - if it wasn't building up so quickly i wouldn't feel concerned but on white tiles it looks ghastly. Maybe it is some sort of mould but then why did it not happen in my cubicle shower?

have decided to go and tackle the cobwebs today but i think the hoover and a pair of ladders will win over a cloth covered balloon - i don't have any helium;-)

I used to be a domestic godess, then i met my husband and had loads of children;-(

It's caused by a bacterium - to be precise, Serratia marcescens. Some of the species rather nasty - see here: https://www.townofcary.org/depts/pwdept/pinkdiscoloration.pdf. Scrubbing and bleach is the answer.

what I love about kim and aggies show is that they never throw anything out...sometimes you look at the homes they show and think the kitchens just need to be ripped out and replaced! having said that, one week somebody's fridge had formed what they called a "bio-film" and they said they could clean it but the chemicals would have to be so strong you could never use the fridge again! that's the only time I've heard them tell someone to replace an appliance.

why or why do these people let the cameras in? they must be truly desperate, I would die of shame!

  • Hi all, I have watched Kim & Aggie since they started and must say I love the show but to be truthful I find it hard to believe that anyone whose house is such a mess would let it be filmed for half the country to see. Do you think it is all "real dirt" or a set up for the programme. I often wonder if maybe a bit of artistic liscence is used. Juat how could the people on the show who's homes they go to ever show thier faces in public again it would be so humilating!
  • Hmmm if the cameras were coming in here i'd have to clean top to bottom - might take me a month to do but i would.

Thank you for the info on the pink stuff - not seen it in the loo, just this new shower so it is obviously coing from the shwer - it isn't on the other end of the bath.

I don't use bleach so will remove the shower head and soak it in tea tree and vinegar - although i guess that it the chlorine that kills it - hmmm bacteria in my bath ;-( Maybe tea tree will too - tis worth a try first.

Thanks tawnyowls...I have this problem also in my shower cubicle, and it does make a bit of a mess.

    I will try this today.

It does look a bit scary.
