    Hiya HOLsale,

Are Pinto beans the same as aduki beans or red kidney beans or something altogether different?

I need to start making my own refried beans.

    Thanks icon7.gif
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D

    Hi HOLsale

What are soda crackers? Are they like water biscuits or cream crackers?

Also when a recipe talks about chicken "dressing" does it mean what we call stuffing? I keep think ing of salad dressing but that can't be right

    Cheers

    Dressing is stuffing.

Soda crackers are a bit like cream crackers but I've not found an exact sub.

Pinto beans are sold here - as pinto beans, in health food shops, Tescos etc. They are pink and black beans. tinned do make nicer refried beans, but we often cook up a huge packet and then run them through the mincer and freeze 'em. They come out very nice :)

mmmmm pintos :) ... also try them in chilli inplace of red kidneys, much nicer (imho) & you don't have to mess around with the 10 minute fast boil thing

I'd like to know that one too. I have a hazy recollection as a very young child of getting little salty squares that were broken off a larger perforated rectangle of 'biscuit'. I was told they were Saltines, but they came from a little grocer in a tiny village in Scotland & it seems so unlikely. maybe I imagined it

I am now the proud owner of a USA cup measure so that I can make some of the lovely USA recipes I've got...BUT someone at work today told me that USA teaspoon and tablespoon sizes are different from ours, so does anyone know what the difference is or can I buy a set of USA measuring spoons......and in a USA recipe, does a small t stand for teasponn and a capital T for tablespoon or am I guessing wrongly?

    Hi :)

We have a thread about the various american [STRIKE]oddities[/STRIKE] conversions so I'll add your question onto it.

I don't think this has been mentioned on there yet.

    Good luck :)
