I'm going to unplug the telly, draw the curtains shut, and retire to my armchair with a case of beer and 'tinternet.
• I have opted to work on the royal wedding day. Those patients don't stop being ill because of a wedding.
• We are planing a high tea with some bubbly, cucumber sandwiches, fontant fancys ect and getting as many people round to watch it on the tellyas we will be up north. I have worked on quite a few royal events and am always impressed with quite how much they do for this country that people don't know about. I think it is such a historic event we should celebrate.

I spotted this on another thread. It's the biscuit/chocolate cake recipe that would be good for a tea party.

Spoke to DH about this (neither of us have strng views about the monarchy as a group) and he thinks you are all very wise to make a celebration of it: every reason to celebrate is a good one in his opinion. As a result we agreed we'd spend the extra day in the garden and then have coronation chicken and kir royales for supper. I might ake that biscuit cake now too. :)
• I am not getting up early to go to work - yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. I have bought serviettes with the union flag on. Might pop to Leeds Castle in Kent where they are showing it on a big screen in the old royal grounds, but depends on the weather.

As this has dropped down the board, and it's more of a special occasion discussion, i've popped it over to the Special occasions board so you can get some more input

Enjoy your day, sounds fab.

Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.

The only Royal celebration we ever did anything for was the Queen's Silver Jubilee. At school we had a fancy dress parade where you either wore something red, white & blue or came as something 'historic' eg I remember a Pearly Queen. We also learnt to sing Rule Britannia, Land of Hope and Glory and the National Anthem. It's the only time during my schooldays I recall doing so.

On the day itself, though our street was suppossed to be closed for a party, the weather wasn't good enough and it was moved to a nearby hall that our street had 'held' in reserve. The neighbours contributed to the food. In the evening that was adults only and held in the street and was a pie and peas supper.

Ahh... 1977 - i remember it well... it was !!!!ing down with rain and so we were given cut out black binbags to cover up with! The amazing feast on the tables in our street I remember as wet blancmange and jelly and angel delight. I'm sure we had fizzy pop too!

The only good thing was the "silver" jubilee coin we were all issued with - currently worth about 10p on ebay.
