we are not actually doing anything on the day but i expect we will watch it,though the day before my girls school are having a royal wedding lunch everyone has been asked to dress red white and blue and they will have a little street/playground lunch party quite sweet i thought

At the school I work in we're doing this too!

    Hoping for good weather!

I sort of agree about the nonentities. Well, they're nonentities to me. I expect I'll do for this one what I did for the last "Royal Wedding". That is, find a pub without a telly and spend the afternoon there.

    Save me a seat!

:D I plan to be on my allotment with my sturdy slaves (hi, Mum and Dad!) for the whole day.

;) Don't know if that counts as OS tho!

BTW, it's been a running gag between my brother and me since about 1980 that whenever the ecomony gets really bad Her Maj marries off a son. We knew the grandchildren were being held in reserve for when hard times came around again, so with 2 royal weddings scheduled this year already, I can say that we are officially dans le merde. :rotfl:

Although we're not involved in doing anything for the RW, i spotted this http://thebutcherthebaker.wordpress.com/2011/04/02/royal-wedding-mr-whippy-cakes/ on a blog the other day. I'm sure they are within the skills range of a large number of OSer's and would be nice for kids/grandkids? I should add, I am not the blog author and am not affiliated with it in any way - don't even live near Derbyshire, so hope it is ok to post!

EDIT: sorry for the long http, I tried to do it a 'recipe', but I guess i'm not technically whizzy enough to get it to work.

Yes - saving electricity by "switching off the tv and going out and doing something less boring instead"
Anyone else remember Why Don't You? (children's tv programme)

I loved that show. My mum used to record them on video for me so I could watch a segment, go do the activity and then come back to it.

Back on topic...I will be working as will most of retail. Normal hours, normal pay (with time in Lieu). I think we will be listening in on the radio though and then, if it is a nice day, a swift half in the pub I would think.

The only Royal celebration we ever did anything for was the Queen's Silver Jubilee. At school we had a fancy dress parade where you either wore something red, white & blue or came as something 'historic' eg I remember a Pearly Queen. We also learnt to sing Rule Britannia, Land of Hope and Glory and the National Anthem. It's the only time during my schooldays I recall doing so.

On the day itself, though our street was suppossed to be closed for a party, the weather wasn't good enough and it was moved to a nearby hall that our street had 'held' in reserve. The neighbours contributed to the food. In the evening that was adults only and held in the street and was a pie and peas supper.

Hubby decided that it's a good excuse to have a garden party. "You can bake cakes and stuff for it" he said. Gee, thanks dear. And what, pray tell, are you going to do? I wonder to myself. <rolls eyes>

I mentioned it to my friend who lives next door and it's started snowballing. She's deciding what food she's going to make and has aready invited some people.

I haven't even agreed to it, but it looks like we will be having one now.

We'll do what we did for Diana's tedious funeral: drive to the coast, have a pub lunch, meet up with other people who are there to avoid the same thing (it was surprising how many there were. Or maybe not...), and generally have a pleasant time.
