but if it was charging 10p for a burger when it could get a quid (not taxing enough) or giving away free milkshakes (unnecessary tax breaks) or even letting some very regular customers have free food on the house (tax avoidance and non doms) it might look at why revenue was down.....

what happened to the lib dem promise of a robin hood tax?

Why dont you and all the other champagne socialists who make good money live a little more frugally and all donate an extra 10% of your income to the government to spend.

This would make you happy in giving the government more money to spend on these things, and you would prove your not a hypocrite in the process.

Or you could just donate 10% of your earnings to charity every year. I know people who do this, and I dont mind them being socialists because they practise what they preach.

I suspect you are like 99% of socialists in that you want others to pay, whilst you personally do nothing for society. Its fine to look after yourself first imo, but dont go shouting about government spending to help the poor people unless you personally do everything you can to help the poor people.
I am not a financial expert, and the post above is merely my opinion.:j

Is that your evaluation of the last government?

Or perhaps they spent to much money for little result? it is all very well moaning about cuts but if you don't look at the cause of the debt and why it could not carry on being increased and increased is very blinkered.

If someone spends more than they earn I presume you do not want them to be given more money to keep up their lifestyle? I presume you would want to know they were going to look at how they were going to pay back the debt and adjust their outgoings?

If you think we should give cash away to support people whatever the cost I can see why you can't see what I am saying and your view on the public sector.

it's not about helping the poor people. it's about helping society as a whole. most people use nhs for emergency health services. not only that but i don't really want to be confronted with ill, homeless or otherwise desperate people.

income inequality also generally leads to increased crime. again, no thanks. i don't want to end up having to live in a fortress like large numbers of the wealthy (i.e. not poor) in parts of the world.

part of my family is from the indian subcontinent. i hear tales there of relatively well off women killed in their homes by their impoverished drivers.

it's not altruism to want good public services it's self preservation.

charity is a poor substitute for government administered services as it relies on the whims and prejudices of the benefactor. the reality is that most the "poor" do not paint an attractive or empathetic image. not one that would do well on a nspcc or rspca style advert for example. the condition of poverty does not necessarily imbue one with the characteristics of deservedness. nonetheless you are poor and have human needs - ones which will become ever more desperate if not met.

Having waited 6 hours for a neonatal transfer ambulance to be available to move our baby from Chelsea to Great Ormond street - I can be pretty confident that less ambulances is not really the way forward...

I waited for my baby to be taken from the East Midlands to GOS. She lost the slot several times over the weekend due to babies more deserving than her. She was eventually taken with the ambulance kitted out for intensive care with staff and police escort.

I totally agree with you. When they turn up and see that the person doesn`t need an ambulance they should refuse to take them. I only ever phoned for an ambulance for my daughter if she was having severe breathing problems and if she needed oxygen which I didn`t have at home.
