frontline is frontline. you don't need to define it. it's those members of the service that have a direct contact with the public. in terms of ambulance service that's drivers / paramedics.

now the condems will be saying that's not really frontline......

Ok, I will give it one go to try and educate you Ninky.

Imagine you are the NHS with £x in your pocket. Now, you know that in the next 5 years a higher % of your money is going to be needed for "old person opperations" because of aging population.

    What do you do?

1, Do what you are suggesting and pander to the lefty media/population and not make any changes to what you fund with your £x.
2, Move a higher proportion of your money to cater for the increased demand on the service from a growing old person population.

Answer 1 or 2 for homework please.

how could they otherwise be expected to make the savings required?

    http://www.eastlondonadvertiser.co.uk/news/paramedic_numbers_could_fall_as_london_ambulance_services_announces_job_losses_1_863033

Chief xxecutive Peter Bradley CBE said: “With nearly 80 per cent of our budget spent on staff costs it would be impossible to make the savings required without removing posts.”
    LAS employs almost 5,000 staff.
It said 560 frontline jobs will go while 330 posts in management and support are being axed.
Mr Bradley added that LAS is also reducing the use of agency workers to make savings.

They could always pay people less.

Oww I forgot, you cant do that.

Or Ninky could trade in the computer they are using, cancel the broadban they have and donate that money to the government to help save some of these jobs?

Owww I forgot, Ninky wants amazing services paid for by someone else who is "rich" (i.e. has worked hard and is more talented than Ninky).

Well what is happening is that all LAS staff will be considered as to whether they can get away with lone working them. Given the physical abuse LAS get, I can see this one blowing right up for the LAS. I know they have no choice tho.

Ninky doesnt seem capable of realising that the challenges facing our health service are constantly shifting, and that the NHS has to change where it puts its money to meet these challenges.

You are banging your head against a brick wall trying to explain this to Ninky.

We might as well discuss the weather. Nice day isnt it?

    It would be rare for me to agree with Ninky, but if politicians were being honest they would be saying that we just have to accept things like;

    1) longer waiting lists
    2) more private provision of services
    3) less 'discretionary' services like fertility treatment
    4) less ambulances & paramedics

All this is a bit inevitable and unavoidable. We have ever growing demand on one hand and a finite supply of money on the other.

where do i demonstrate that i can't understand that?

in that case cameron could be accused of the same. he promised "no cuts to frontline services", remember? not - "we promise we might shift where we spend the money so this might mean cutting some frontline services...sorry about that."

"an end to boom and bust"
    "no cuts to frontline services"

    yeah, right.

True. Thats the number one thing we need to do. We must ensure (at all costs) that as much of our money goes into paying for our housing as is possible. WHo cares about peoples lives, just as long as the people with 3 houses are getting a nice return on their "investment" then everything is ok!

i make quite a nice living thankyou very much and pay considerable amounts in tax. some say i'm quite talented. i'd just like others who also come from low income backgrounds to have the same opportunies i had if not better.
