i thought we weren't supposed to get these under the condems?

London Ambulance Service has announced plans to axe 890 jobs over the next five years to make savings of £53 million.
The service said most of the reductions would come from natural wastage and would include 560 frontline positions.
Union leaders attacked the move and one campaign group said it would mean "total carnage" for the capital's ambulance service.
The reduction represents almost a fifth of the service's 5,000 staff and will fuel the controversy over the Government's controversial health reforms.

Depends on the definition of frontline.
Out of the 5000 staff, how many are actually paramedics?0 -

it says they are cutting 560 frontline (i.e. ambulance drivers, paramedics etc) staff. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -
Prove there are net cuts in nhs front line staff across the UK please.
O wait, you cant? Ok!
P.s. Do you know what "net" means?I am not a financial expert, and the post above is merely my opinion.:j0 -
You do know that this is a government cut? Instead it's instigated by "London Health Emergency".
Something the government may fund, but dont control.0 -

how could they otherwise be expected to make the savings required?

Chief xxecutive Peter Bradley CBE said: “With nearly 80 per cent of our budget spent on staff costs it would be impossible to make the savings required without removing posts.”
LAS employs almost 5,000 staff.
It said 560 frontline jobs will go while 330 posts in management and support are being axed.
Mr Bradley added that LAS is also reducing the use of agency workers to make savings. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -
I thougt we were just seeing no real terms cuts in funding - how that is spent on headcount, equipment, pay increases etc is surely up to the individual trusts? Given increasing demand for services with an ageing population it would seem inevitable that spending will shift to different areas and thus some areas will see reductions?
Attacking a position that your 'opponent' hasn't actually taken makes you sound more like a politician than a forum participant.I think....0 -
Where does it define frontline?
frontline is frontline. you don't need to define it. it's those members of the service that have a direct contact with the public. in terms of ambulance service that's drivers / paramedics.
now the condems will be saying that's not really frontline......Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -
Where does it define frontline?
its touching that there are people out there still gullible enough to think that all the cuts are going come from nebulous bureaucrats, back office workers and "efficiencies".
I can respect the "there is no money left", or "public spending is too high as a percentage of GDP" arguments.
The arguments that "its not a Government cut, its a local council one", or arguing over the definition of frontline does seem a tad pathetic.0 -

Ninky doesnt seem capable of realising that the challenges facing our health service are constantly shifting, and that the NHS has to change where it puts its money to meet these challenges.
You are banging your head against a brick wall trying to explain this to Ninky.
We might as well discuss the weather. Nice day isnt it?I am not a financial expert, and the post above is merely my opinion.:j0
