Hopeless Santander again

Applied for a 2011-2012 flexible ISA online a couple of weeks ago and the account was opened on the first tax day of the year last Wednesday. Only trouble is I can't put any money in it - it keeps bouncing back to my current account.

Santander say they put a block on the account as they hadn't had a declaration about age/ not opening another ISA/ limit on deposits etc. I'm sure I ticked a box on the application to say this, however they let me do this declaration over the phone and they said the block would be taken off within 24 hours. 2 days later still blocked.

A totally useless bank.

You have something called a Cash ISA Declaration on the account. It's a pretty standard block which is placed on an ISA after a few days if it is not funded immediately at the beginning of the new tax year.

You are declaring that you are a UK resident, over 16, and the owner of the contributing funds.

Visit a branch, sign a form, and the block is removed immediately and be done with it.

Half the telephone advisers don't know their !!!! from their elbow don't waste your time with them.

Thanks for the heads-up on this. I'm still waiting to hear anything after applying online.

I applied online a few days before the end of the tax year for 2011/12 funded from my savings account. It was opened on the 6th and a confirmation email on the 7th. Couldn't believe how quickly they'd done it. My Direct ISA is still showing £5340 allowable funding for this year though!

Am I missing something? This evening I've got their email about the Santander Flexible ISA, telling me to credit it (sort code is 09-01-27).

Turns out I was! Natwest online banking tell me the sort code and account number don't match with each other when I tried setting up a new payee. I'll have to wait for my Mk1 chequebook to arrive from Natwest (visited branch, all apologetic), then I can transfer ££££ from my online savings there.

The reason I am unable to deposit any funds in the ISA is that their system was tricked into thinking I had already funded the ISA to £5340 when a payment bounced back to Natwest because of a block on the account due to the Cash ISA declaration block on the account!

It took them about an hour to work this out this morning.

Even the in branch staff said the call centre was useless, it took about 10 minutes for them to get through to the right people then she got hung up on! No wonder its so hard for us to get any sense from them.

Now I have the joy of the Santander online banking with the 'one - time password thing' that has caused another hour of sorting out on the phone :rotfl:
  • Applied on the 7th. Promised an e-mail have received nothing. I've given up and opened the Barclays Golden ISA today.

Am I supposed to let Santander know within 14 days? Don't even know if they opened it or not.

    Useless.
