    Can no-one answer this, then?

    What answer are you wanting?
“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”

I'm wondering, why, when my review date was given as Nov 13 I'm being migrated to ESA now.

probably because that review date was for incap and you are being reassesd for esa i think they have scrapped all incap review dates and are starting with a clean slate.

Thanks, it's just a worry going through the process again just 5 months on, albeit now ESA instead of IB.

There did seem to be some plan of action on how they were going to do it but now it seems that all of those plans have gone out of the window unfortunately and it all seems to be a bit more random....

Contact them again and let them know you are not happy. You have been deemed unfit for work for 3 years because there is a reason for it and you dont think it is right you are getting contacted again because of their mistake.....and it is their mistake.

What everyone seems to be forgetting is that notwithstanding having 'passed' the IB medical and found to be unfit for work for 3 years, doesn't mean to say that that is or will be the case for ESA.

Everyone knows that in general terms IB was a much easier medical to get through.

The goalposts have now changed, and what might have been seen as a case for long term IB, under ESA, it could be that you will be found fit for work and be expected to take all necessary steps to find work.

Surely given this inconsistency, you would want to know exactly where you stand now and not have to endure another 3 years of uncertainty and worry?

Sorry but in my opionion the IB medicals have never been easy to get through....When i first had mine 10 years ago it was done by doctors and it was like a interrogation....now it's all based on what boxes a doctor can tick on a computer programme, no room to explain anything or add any other details if you don't fit the box and then you have to have a physical examination as well on top...Hardly easy and you also have to manage the stress if your medical is cancelled due to some inate reason and you then have to wait another 6 weeks for another appointment to come up because your benefit is only dealt with on a Wednesday....

There never is any certainty when you're on benefits.....

Now i've had my rant and you'll probably turn out to be some troll to come on here and say medicals are easy but hey ho....:rotfl:

Thanks. For a start I am not a troll - I have helped many in the past with with thoughts and opinions!

I know what you are saying is how you are thinking, but there are cases under IB that have NEVER been assessed. Are you saying that your last medical was 10 years ago or was it the first one you had?

I do hope that it was the latter!

The conception of what is or isn't a case of being unable to do any type of work has changed with the times. Consequently the conditions of passing the ESA medical have improved.
10 years ago and now cannot be compared. Medical science has moved forward.

I am only saying this as if given the choice of waiting 3 years and with this uncertainty going on in your head, or taking the bull by the horns now and getting it resolved, I know which one I would choose! 3 years of that level or worry would be enough to push people over the edge.

I am a great believer in facing things now and dealing with them, instead of sitting here worrying!

You said that IB medicals were easier to get through we weren't talking about those that are seriously ill enough to not have to go through that process....

For some it's not necessarily about taking the bull by the horns, for some this change means they won't be able to pay their bills or they won't be able to afford a house anymore, given that choice people would rather put off the change to ESA so as to protect themselves from further financial hardships....

I have many medicals over my time thank you, i am on of those that when they can work i try and when i get too ill to continue or i go into remission then i have to stop....Not through choice mind you as i am one of those wierd people that would love to work full time again but to some folks like me it's a pipe dream unless they come up with some miraculous cure until then i'll try part time as and when i can, not a lot of companies want to employ me though.......Medical science has moved forward for some illnesses and conditions but not all....With mine it has taken 17 years to get it classed as a neuro immune disorder never mind finding suitable medications....It's progress but it will always be slow....

The thing is that over the years work places have had to adapt to enable disabled people to access them and work. This was helped by the disability discrimination act.

Either disabled people want the same rights as the rest of the people or they don't, but you can't cry out you want to be treated equal in one area but not another.

I think it is fantastic that in today's society companies are now more able to offer disabled people employment.

I am on ESA (support group) for severe depression but I also have RA. Since being unable to work due to the depression I have found my RA has worsened. I can't wait to have my depression under control again and go back to work as I don't want my body to seize up completely which can happen if you have any form of arthritis and don't get regular exercise. Work is a great way to exercise, a great way to take your mind off pain etc. I know as soon as they find the right treatment for my depression I won't be hanging around on ESA just because I've been placed in the support group.

Too much time on your hands gives your mind too much time to think of the pain etc.
Just sold a lawnmower on Ebay.. That's the last time my neighbour will wake me up on a Saturday morning!
