How about 200 litres for £5.99 + vat ? Which makes it £7.19

    AND IT'S GOOD STUFF :)

    J ARTHUR BOWER'S Multi-Purpose Compost

It available from Wednesday 20th April to Tuesday 2nd May at MAKRO

The OFFER is actually a BOGOF on a 100 litre pack

I don't have a makro card, boo hoo! Is there any one who is going to Makro Charlton that would be willing to get me some? Happy to meet you there and swap compost for cash :). Here's hoping :)

Not sure if they still do it, but you used to be able to get a "Temporary Day Pass"

presumably so that "newcomers" could have a look around and see what's on offer etc.

As far as I can remember you were allowed to make purchases on this visit.
I think the only restriction was that you had to pay cash - card payments not allowed as a "visitor" / non-member.

I can't see anything on their website about a day pass but will pop in to find out next time I pass that way. I'd still be interested in getting in touch with someone local with a Makro card that would be willing to help me out.

Wyevale garden centres (I know, can be expensive) have 3 60l bags if j Arthur bowers multi purpose for £12; but if you're a member of their garden club (free membership and you collect points as you spend) you get an extra bag free. So 240l for £12.

    *******************************************************

Which Best buy this year - 60 ltr New Horizon MPC Extra bag free 4xbags for £12.99 (usually 3xbags for £12.99) - available until 1 May for Gardening Club Members
  • Where is that offer at?

Local garden centre - Garsides in Failsworth is doing 3 70l bags for £10. A friend tells me it's really good stuff so I'm off to buy some today.

Top soil - ring around. I've found some £26 a ton including delivery and it's good stuff.
The skip place wanted £30 a ton plus VAT!
  • I rang Rowena - my local Wyvale centre and they confirmed you get an extra bag free for joining the Gardening Club - which you can do at the checkout.
They said the offer was on
Arthur Bowers Multi Purpose Compost 3 x 66L for 12.99 (+1 if join club),
or New Horizons Multi Purpose Compost 3 x 50L for 12.99 (+1 if join club)

Not sure if the New Horizons is the peat free, but this is from Which? 2012
"New Horizon Multipurpose Peat-free Compost was named best buy in the peat-free multipurpose category. It is the sixth consecutive year the compost has won the award, after seedlings and container plants grew well in tests.

Arthur Bower's Multipurpose Compost won the equivalent award for the peat-based category, with seedlings and young plants demonstrating a good affinity with the peat."

Last time I was at MAKRO - a couple of weeks ago - they had 200 litres for £6.99 + vat. Which makes it £8.39

    and it's also J ARTHUR BOWER'S Multi-Purpose Compost

    That's approx 4.2p per litre
(the Wyevale offer is 4.9p/l INCLUDING the FREE one from the "Club")

The OFFER was a BOGOF on a 100 litre pack
