Debate House Prices
In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non MoneySaving matters are no longer permitted. This includes wider debates about general house prices, the economy and politics. JB, you can still see quoted posts when you have someone on ignore so you still get a jist of the conversation.
What it does achieve is filtering the majority of the crap out and any temptation to respond to pointless arguments.
No it doesn't.
I see people tying themselves up in knots responding to points they have clearly read but somehow can't admit to.
For those who genuinely do "ignore" names I then also see people responding to posts they have read as it's "in a quote". Thought they were ignoring them? Oh, I see, they can't ignore them unless a machine does it for them. Lack of self control.
I've not responded to plenty of idiots and plenty of stupid posts but that has been my conscious decision.0 -

PPR means posting privileges removed. Thanking privileges remain.
All the request to ban him would do is stop him writing posts. Bit of a waste of time all things considered!
The account can be removed altogether, which takes thanks with it. As well you know.
Like I said, I just reported the lot and let the board guide decide. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
It's the reports and PPRing which got the board being hidden.
You muppet.
No. Joe is right on this. It was the endless puppetry leading people to wind up others more and more each time as their "side" was outdone. It led to some nasty characters being developed. They became quite extreme on occasions and it was this that led the board to being hidden.0 -

I'm not a nasty character. At worst calling Joe by his avatar picture, muppet.
There's lots of nastiness on other boards. The benefits board can be vicious at times. These boards are not hidden, less reporting being the big reason.0 -

The psychology of the thing is that even a toddler knows that if they cry long and loud enough you wont be able to pretend ignore them, however, if you put ear phones on and listen to music they KNOW you cant hear them and so they stop wasting their time.
No. It is the fact of whether you ignore them or not that matters, not the method you use to ignore them.
What you mean is sometimes you can't help yourself and sometimes repsond if you haven't used ignore.
(Which often seems to go hand in hand with the "I'm going to put you on ignore but still somehow comment on things being mentioned by the person being ignored")0
