I've ordered the iPad 2 Black wifi 32GB from John Lewis today and it is coming tomorrow morning. I have never owned an iPod touch or iPad or iPhone so I am really excited.

I was just wondering if anyone else has an iPad and what you think about it?

I know lots of people just say it is a gimmick, an over-sized ipod-touch. But that's the whole point of it, it can be used to read the news, watch movies/TV, read books and magazines comfortably on a bigger screen. And it is more comfortable to use than a laptop for general light internet surfing.

I got my Apple Pad early last week from dealextreme. It's nice, but besides writing notes and impressing friends I'm not really sure what it's good for:

Have you not used any apps. I am planning on using it for:

    surfing the web
    reading books
    reading magazines
    reading the news
    checking email
    playing the odd game here
    Apps
Use it for notes when I go to uni
Use it to remotely access my windows 7 desktop

Got a tablet but not an iPad.

They are alright but strangely enough I keep getting drawn to the laptop as it can just do that little bit more with proper keyboard etc.

I surf the net on it and I look at a few apps like news ones, also do the e-mails/facebook twitter etc. Movies and browsing are OK but it stays at home most of the time unless I am travelling. My phone can do most of the stuff it can so if it hadn't been less than £250 I wouldn't have bought it.

Hmmm...There's no apple touch device in my household so I thought this would be quite cool. It is expensive.

The touchscreen on the iPad is capacitive rather than resistive like the cheaper touchscreens such as my samsung jet mobile phone. Perhaps this is why you dont' like using the keyboard. How big is your tablet.

I really hope I don't regret purchasing the iPad. It's something we don't really need but...
  • Don't worry if you don't like it.

Prices are very high on eBay etc, so I'm sure you would be able to get most, if not all your money back by selling it on.

If you like your iPad half as much as I like my iPod touch you will be over the moon with it.

My touch screen is 10.1" capacitive multitouch, wouldn't have bought resistive. I can even use a USB keyboard.

I don't regret buying it, but it isn't something I would spend loads on yet for me they need to develop more. The iPad turned me off with no flash as one of the things I often do if grab the tablet go onto the BBC website and watch the football highlights which are flash and don't work on my Apple devices or didn't last time I checked- iplayer might work now?

I think if I did a bit more travelling by plane or train it might have been better. They have their uses I like mine but I won't say it is can't live without. A kindle is far superior too for e-books as it is better on the eyes and in sunlight than LCDs.

That's just my view on having one for about 6 months. Don't worry about it, use it see how you enjoy it and it might suit you perfectly. If not you can always sell it :)

    Hi,

I bought the original iPad when it launched last year, and bought the iPad 2 a couple of days ago.

It really is a great tool if you are happy with it's limitations. It really is like a bit oversized ipod touch, and that is not necessarily a bad thing if that is what you want.

I use mine mainly for web browsing, email, chat and watching TV/Movies.

The only thing i really have not got used to is the keyboard, i can touch type on a normal keyboard, but have given up all hope of doing that on the iPad, I end up typing with a couple of fingers, but it works ok, if I need to do a lot of typing i make sure i use a proper computer.

I had hoped my main use would be reading ebooks and pdfs, however, for me, I don't think the iPad is good enough, I think (for me) it really needs a higher resolution screen for that, but other people seem to like it OK.

Overall, I like the iPad and I use my a lot for casual stuff, but it would never replace a "proper" computer. If you've used an ipod touch or iphone before you should feel right at home, and if you haven't, its so easy to use you'll be up and running in no time.

Anyway, good luck with your new toy!, hope you get hours of fun from it
