It is pants when it comes down to typing or any serious work.

The same problem suffered by all the other iPad clones. So buy a Keyboard dock.

Recently moved into a new building where space is short. So were told to leave our cardboard brains (notebooks) at home. I looked for a digital device to transfer my notes to, which also had a few additional bells and whistles. Have been using iPad 1 since launch last year. Sold that on (to my manager, who having seen what I was using it for, wanted one) and my iPad 2 arrived yesterday. When we were told of the space limitations I looked at the Kindle, and Sony eReader (none of the other iPad wannabe's were out at the time). The iPad (and I'm not denying it is expensive) was just what I wanted.

I went for the WiFi iPad as I already had a 3G mobile Broadband portable router (iPad and 5 other devices can connect wirelessly while on the move). I have been using my iPad for 'serious work' since the day after I purchased it. The Keyboard dock makes life easier, especially if searching your own/documents/handbooks/manuals/emails. When I considered what I was using the iPad for, the Keyboard dock was a natural purchase. It also supports the iPad at 45 degrees for viewing.

On a full charge and dipping in and out of the device throughout my working day, the battery lasts for at the very least 72 hours. (Subjective, and depends on what you are using it for. For example watching telly all day is going to suck the battery dry a lot quicker).

All my notes are on this device, as are all the manufacturers handbooks for all network devices I work with. 3Com (not so much nowadays), Nortel (all variants), Cisco (all variants), RadMux and many more.

    The Apps:

World Clock - At a glance, I can check what time it is (are they just about to start, or go home, or on lunch,) in my global areas of responsibility. (Med, Middle East and down to Antarctica).

Print Central - Print to ANY wireless printer (the newer OS upgrade brought in wireless printing, but I purchased this last year, so still use it)

Early Edition - All my RSS feeds go to this - Brilliant App

Daily Notes - Diary / Notes

Penultimate - Can use a stylus to draw / note take (easier than the on screen keyboard sometimes)

iAnnotate PDF - All my notes are viewed/edited via this App. Also displays all the manufacturers technical manuals.

Keypad Pro - Use this App at home on your wireless network to interface with any other program running on your PC/Mac. You can put all your keyboard shortcut keys on this App. For example if using a video or photo editor, when you press the button on the touchscreen, the command is sent to your running program. (Would you rather press a button called (for example) Gradiant, or would you rather try to remember CTRL-ALT-SHIFT-DELETE-A ?)

Slingbox - Remote log in to my Sky box at home wherever I am, and watch TV as if I was sat in front of the Telly.

StarWalk - Got this after watching Prof Brian Cox. I can look for and pinpoint all the stars he was going on about.

Tune in Radio - Every Radio Station know to man!

iBooks - CCNP and CCIP were downloaded via iTunes bookstore to help with my exams last year.

Angry Birds - Got to be done!

BBC iPlayer, and TV Catchup can be accessed via your browser of choice (catch up with the news while eating lunch or sat at the Dentist. In case you can't use Slingbox because the wife is watching the box at home. No good changing over to the footie if she is watching something girly - not worth the Paddington Bear stares when you get home)!
