Landlord wants to take pictures for sale

Hi All,

Just wanted an opinion on this. We are moving out in the middle of May and the landlord wants to sell the property. The estate agents want to come round and take pictures of the flat but I am not comfortable with our possesions being photographed.

What do you think - is this fair? I've asked him if he can use the pictures he ahd when we originally moved in.

    Just tell them you are more than happy for them to take photos of the flat...once you have moved out!

    Thanks I have been broken into in the flat before so I would rather not have our TV etc photgraphed as it is on the gound floor.

    I think most burglars assume that most houses/flats have TVs in them nowadays. I really don't think this is going to make you a target!

    As others have said, yes, you could refuse all access, whether fo photos, valuations, viewings etc - but that would not be particularly helpful or friendly.

    Can't you fnd a compromise? The landlord has not made an unreasonable request (and unlike many LLs/agents at least he's asked not demanded!).

    Restrict access to a few limited, agreed occassions, and ask the LL to tell the photographer to avoid including anything you'd prefer not included.

    I'd advocate give and take here!

    Thanks. I will see what he says. I don't want to be unreasonable I would just rather not have pictures taken.

    Be honest if it was your own house and you were selling it and getting the money would you object to having photos taken if it meant a sale.
    And yes it may be your home but it's the Landlords property as I am sure like most tenants you would be quick to point out when you needed something doing to it.

    Tidy away all your valuables, be there when the photgrapher comes and ask to see any pictures before they are used for the marketing of the flat.

    You have the opportunity to negotiate things to your advantage (rent reduction, good references etc..) in exchange for allowing photies (you could also demand right of editing on them to exclude one's you ain't happy with), allowing surveyors/sales agents/buyers viewings etc.

    You don't have to allow anyone (no NOBODY!!) in if you don't want them.

    In your shoes I'd ask for 50% reduction in rent until sold & written references up-front..

    Just because the place is sold your tenancy does not end - it carries on with new owner as landlord, all other terms as they were..

    If it is your house, you take the risk and get the benefit. As tenant you take all the risk and get none of the benefit, so I don't buy your argument.

    Thousands upon thousands of home owners have photos of their possessions plastered all over the internet and in agents's windows all over the land...... why is it any different for you?
