So would covering the taxi plates with duck tape or similar have prevented you from getting pulled?

Similar way to police vehicles being transported by mechanics.

Yes and no. The offence if you can call it that, or breach of licensing was driving a vehicle displaying private hire plates, and I assume the disc in the window by a driver who doesnt hold a taxi licence. Covering/removing the plates would have removed this offence however as I said before these plates are in lieu of a normal mot so there would then be another offence of driving with no mot, as the vehicle couldnt use the taxi mot if its not being used as a taxi

This is not allowed as the vehicle itself is licenced and you need a licence.

The council periodically let the drivers know that the spouse is not to drive the car without plates as it is still licenced.

    Hope this clarifies the situation

thing the way they say it if a car is registered as a taxi then you need seprate taxi insurance.
Council were claiming £400 costs and there wasa potential for points also.
I was glad the court understood I had no intention of driving as a taxi and it was just cos i thought it was a normal car.
So im happy with an £85 fine

Hi, its good to hear that your problem is sorted. I assume the judge said you were insured as your Policy says "any vehicle in possesion", if not what was it ?

Also can you give us case details
You v them, date, order given,
Thanks this will be useful if someone else gets caught in the same situation
