Phones4u - pushy sales over the phone?

Hi,
Just wondered if anybody else had experience a similar thing really:
I've been looking at going onto Contract from a currently Sim Only monthly contract. I had an idea of what phone I was after, and so called Phones4u to see what contracts they had available.
I advised them how many minutes/texts/internet I needed each month, what my budget was and that I wanted to keep the same number.
The girl I spoke to (I think her name was Lauren), spoke so fast I could barely understand her at times. She put me on hold for a few minutes whilst she could see what the best deals they had, the first one she gave was £5 over what I wanted to pay. I said "thanks but that's more than I really want to pay" when she then said she would have another look if I was okay to wait - I said yes thats fine, I'll wait. She came back with another deal, which wasn't enough minutes. I advised straight away that I use that amount of minutes each month, sometimes more so it wouldn't be right for me. She then gave another deal which was more than my budget by £10 and with the same network as I'm currently on, which wouldn't allow me to have the same number as it would be a "new connection" not an upgrade, and became quite pushy, I said that I would leave it today but she then asked me to wait and then put me on hold. Next thing, a manager (Aaron or Allen I believe), comes on saying he can discount the deal and give me some cashback so that it would only be £1.50 a month more than I asked for - now this I have nothing against, but what I strongly disliked was what happened next.
I then said to him thanks for Laurens and your help, but I'm going to leave it today as it is more than I want to pay over 24months and means losing my number. He then says that the deal to keep my number would mean £140 a year more and that doensn't sound worth it, I said I'll need to think about that. He then got extremely pushy, saying how it was a good deal, how he needs to earn money as well, and how if I go the deal won't be available again and that he won't be offering the cash-back if I wanted it if I called back. I just felt this was extremely pushy and didn't think they were allowed to behave like that? It completely put me off using Phones4U, I've used them before and not had any problems.
My main concern is that somebody could really feel pressured into taking out a contract that they're not entirely happy with. I know it's over the phone and someone could just hang up, but as in my situation I didn't want to just hang-up on someone and it wasn't until the end of the conversation where they changed from helpful sales to being downright pushy and slightly intimidating.
Surely there is a policy against this kind of selling??
Has anyone else had similar problems with Phones4U?
Sorry for the long post by the way, and that's it's slightly "ranty", but really did feel very strongly about it!
Thanks.

Phones4U always use pressure tactics, either over the phone or in the store.
I have a personal policy of never 'sitting down at the table' with them.. they've got you then. I hate them for this hard-sell methodology
You've just got to remember that its all your decision, and you can walk away when you want to0 -
Yes, I've completely gone off them now. I've bought in store before and yes, they've been very keen on securing a sale, but I've never felt so pressured before. I was just shocked at how extreme it was, it went beyond what you sort of expect from a Sales team.Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world!

Sales is how the company makes business, you are never forced to sign a contract you dont want.0

James1990 - it's about how someone tries to make a sale, pushy sales and using tricks like saying, "if you don't take it now I won't offer it again" are pressure selling, and are very wrong.Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world!
