Accomodation In Snowdonia and Things to do

Options
Been looking for places to go and snowdonia seems a nice place.

On a tight budget so cant spend too much on accomodation. Everywhere I seem to look its around the same amount but all are per person per night so turns out more expensive than just per room.

I want to stay 2 nights. 2 adults and 1 child. Max i want to spend is £80. But unfortunatly cant find anything. Anyone know any places who are reasonable or who may be able to negotiate in prices. Want to stay 18th/19th April. Prob too less i guess

Also what are good places to visit with a 4 year old. Like scenery, beaches, gardens etc.

Seen a few train rides so might go on one of them

Just looked & the Travelodge is £35.75 per night for 1 room but the Premmier Inn has no rooms available. The Travelodge is a new hotel & nice!

    Thanks for that.

Is that close to main sites? as did have look on travelodge but didnt know how far most of them were to main sites as unsure what to even visit yet.

Atleast i can use this as a base to find places to visit

What would be worth visiting near there with a 4 year old? Have a car so dont mind travelling if it means visiting somewhere worth seeing

Its a great base just behind Morrison's car park in town. About 5 mins walk from the town centre. Plenty of places to eat in Caenarfon like Fu's (lovely chinese), cantonese & thai on the castle square, italian & indian restaurants, fish & chip shops, KFC & McDonalds. Cafes are ample too. you could alwasy take a walk across the Aber bridge by the castle which takes you over to the Foryd bay & its a lovely walk along the coast.

Llanberis is close too (about 7 miles) & the Llanberis Lake railway for the little one and they have a great soft play called "Y Den" there & they serve food.

If its really nice take the A487 & A499 to the local beach called Dinas Dinlle for a lovely walk. Your child could take a scooter/bike too. There's a lovely new cafe with beautiful food called Bwyty Lleu.

Llandudno isn't that far (about 35 mins) from caernarfon & it has a great pier & good shops.

Betws y Coed is also nice for the day...quaint & has lots of little cafes & shops.

Snowdonia is stunning at anytime of the year and Caernarfon is a great base for Mountains and beaches. Not far from Anglesey rugged and rough.

Been looking at railway lines. Which one is worth going on

    Llanberis - seems nice.

snowdon railway - seems much better but also mention Llanberis station.

Are these both similar? but snowdon is much more expensive.

Also seen cambrian lines which is further away south though but with this one you have dayrover. Would they have good scenic views? better than llanberis?

You could consider staying in Llandudno, which isn't quite in Snowdonia but a good base to explore from. The main advantage of Llandudno is that it has 200+ hotels, guest houses and B&Bs so you've got a decent chance of picking up a last minute bargain, bearing in mind next week is half-term so it's likely to be the first really busy week of the season. You've got two beaches to choose from (if the tide is out!) and there's a funfair on the pier that will keep a four year old amused for a few hours.

Check with North Wales Tourism for info on accommodation - http://www.nwt.co.uk/accommodation/

If you want to take a train trip the Conwy Valley line which runs from Llandudno to Blaenau Ffestiniog is one of the most scenic branch lines in the country, and recently featured on Michael Portillo's series about railway journeys in the UK. You can go all the way to Blaenau and back (about a two and half hour trip) for £7.20 but I'd suggest just going as far as Betws-y-Coed, which would set you back £5.20 for a return. You'll get an hour and ten minutes to browse around Betws before hopping back on the train as it returns back up the valley, unless you fancy spending longer there and getting the later train back. The advantage of this is the Llandudno railway station is in the town centre so you wouldn't need to travel far to get to your starting point.
The fridge is empty, the walls are damp, there's no hot water
And I look like a tramp and tramps like us

things to do - Conwy castle, Caernarvon castle (although I prefer Conwy!), Bodnant Gardens, Penrhyn castle (both national trust), Great Orme cable car/tram/copper mines in Llandudno, Anglesey Sea Zoo, Welsh Mountain Zoo in Colwyn Bay, mooch around Betws y coed, great walks around Crafnant lake and Aber falls, Llanberis - Electric Mountain is fab, National Slate Museum is worth a visit. You can get flyers with vouchers for most of these from tourist information centres. I'd suggest staying somewhere like Llandudno to be honest - much better transport links to all these places. Hope that helps.
