So was your 12 year old daughter sat on her own?

We had 3 seats all seperate. My DD and I were close to each other and a kind couple offered to move so we could sit together.

It wasn't a big deal for us as obviously at 12 she was fine to sit alone. We were all just so pleased we had a seat!

To me, there's moneysaving and there's moneysaving.
To 74jax credit, they were pretty relaxed about all not sitting together.
However it really irritates me when families kick off about not sitting together, start quoting health + safety, CAA rules etc. All this stress and agro is avoidable by paying a very small fee.
The responsibility for all these issues really lies with the adult doing the booking. Is your child not worth the £3.99 to guarantee a seat next to you?

I totally agree. When DD was younger we paid to all sit together but nowadays she's happy by herself with her ipod and being fussed over by other passengers for 'separated from Mam'.....

My initial post wasn't because we couldn't sit together, but because the only 3 seats left were emergency seats and you have to be 16 to sit in one. Even the woman on the phone couldn't guarantee a seat for us. The relief when we get to the airport was enormous.

  • A 5 year old will not be separated from his or her parents/guardians on a flight. If the flight is full, others will be moved to accommodate. The reason the online system will not allow you to check in is probably because you need to physically check in to ensure you are sat together.

For future ref to reiterate the best option to not pay and get seats together is to book and then ensure you check in online at the earliest opportunity... 28 days before. This way you will almost always get seats together as only some people pay the rip off charge to know early. I travel frequently with Jet 2 and have never been separated when travelling in 2 or 3 .
When you check in it shows what seats are going ot be able to be allocated to you, so if the number is really low I guess thats when you could get split.
The only problem with checking in asap is if you then need to amend you CANNOT but hopefully this doesnt affect too many people, altho I fell foul of this last year when we had to cancel our trip due to family illness. HTH
